What songs do you listen to after you've just broken up with someone. It could be to get out the anger, the happiness, the sadness, or just pure raw emotion.

For me:

Sad - Chet Baker, Roy Orbison, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Al Green

Happy - Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Soundtrack, Mutant Disco

Angry - Iggy and the Stooges (Raw Power), Pere Ubu, Johnny Thunders, Neil Young

Sad- the Cure, Sam Cooke, the Dramatics, the Temptations

Happy- James Brown, Buzzcoks, Pixies, Fela Kuti, and alot of Hip Hop

Angry-(early)Face to Face, Scissor Fight, Minor threat

Those are a few. These top five, and desert island threads kill me. I'm too indecisive. I'll look at this thread tomrrow, and have a million more songs/bands. Anyhoo that's it for now.

"My Immortal" - Evanescence

Put it on repeat and listen to it over and over and over... it's full of grief, yet so uplifting in a way.

I just don't know what to do with myself was originally a Burt Bacarach song. That being said here are my picks

If I'm ending it: The Warlocks - Baby Blue or Jesus and Mary Chain - The Hardest Walk

If it's ending against my will: Joy Division, The Black Hear Procession, Some of the VU or Lou Reeds more depressing shit or the album "The Glow pt.2" by The Microphones.

Oh... how could I forget... Roy Orbison and K.D. Lang doing an acoustic version of "Crying". I can't make it past the first verse without breaking down into sobs. It pulls my heart out of my chest.

I love it. smile

"Hope" by the Descendents
"Farewell" by American Nightmare (pretty much anything by AN/Give Up the Ghost)
"In Circles" Sunny Day Real Estate
"I Thought You'd Fall for Me" Mazzy Star
"For Sure" Tiger Trap
"Crowds" Bauhaus

really, there's always this crazy swirl of emotions going on and sometimes i wallow and play the heartbreak hardcore, and sometimes i wanna hear anything but that.

The entire album "Darkest Days" by Stabbing Westward. It's the perfect break up album. It's got every emotion you go through on it. I love it!

Siouxie "Forever"

Infinity stretches unlimitlessly
countless days pass by immeasurably
Anniversaries gutter in the maelstrom
whorling a snowstorm of lustrous millennium
We couldn't stay together
this couldn't last forever
Senses dissolve into soliloquies
flooding ascent in synchronicity
But we couldn't stay together
I knew this wouldn't last forever
Forever just one more tie then never
this is the last string to sever
On and on yes it goes on and on
I could stay wherever
I would last forever
Forever just one more tie then never
this is the last string to sever
forever never forever
This is the last string to sever
I have lost you for ever and ever

Angry Johnny and the Killbillys. Almost all of their songs are about heartbreak and murder.

From "Chainsaw Charlie":
Look at Charlie and Samantha
another twisted modern fairly tale
Samantha's in a pickle jar somewhere
and Charlie's growing old in jail

I usually just put on all of Dylan's really mean songs- Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat, It Ain't Me Babe, etc.- and feel smugly bitter. You know, real productive, feel-good stuff.
