Erin's new set "Jack & Coke" has inspired me to start a thread on the amazing mutant threads that occurred with late disco/early house music.

I'm think of Johnny Rotten's second band PiL.. with their top ten hit "Death Disco" as well as things off of Ze Records.. and things like Liquid Liquid, James Chance and the Contortions, ESG, Laid Back, and the excellent Disco Not Disco 2 compilation. We also can't forget people like Frankie Knuckles, so we can all "Ride the White Horse".

I'm not sure what Erin's set has to do with it but I too love Metal Box. It is definitely one of the most influential albums of the original punk era. I have an original vinyl copy in mint condition. It's one of my most prized records.

This album is also known as 'Second Edition' with a grey gatefold cover with distorted photos of Keith Levine, Johnny and Wobble - and the lyrics on the back........(The cassette played Poptones)........

You have the original vinyl released in the Metal Box!! Fuck you're kidding me that is soo sweet.

Erin's set had to do with it because it reminded me of dark disco-chic that had to do with the 'mutant disco' or 'no wave' period in NYC punk and the present 'electro' revival. (which is different from the electro-clash thing). A good example of this electro revival would be the latest Beans record or the Soft Pink Truth (Drew Daniel of Matmos) record Do You Party?

If anybody has any Liquid Liquid records they would be willing to part ways w/, I'll be glad to assist you...just name the price...
Anyone here into Gina X?

What do y'all thing of the newer death disco stuff? Liars, Glass Candy, Pixel Tan, etc.?

One more thing: I was got into an interesting discussion about Liquid Liquid, Medium Medium, and ESG the other day. I believe that the above mentioned band's music is the true root of modern Drum n Bass/Jungle, but SOME refused to listen to me...thoughts?

Isn't 'Death Disco' the club night that Alan McGee runs in London every month?

"Metal Box" is awesome...the American version, "Second Edition," is remixed and not as good. Not sure if the original mix has ever been put on CD....

I liked some of the ZE stuff, like early Was Not Was, James Chance and Cristina.

A lot of the stuff from the period is really surfacing now. I love rediscovering the past.

You are a full-fledged frickin god for having this. Bend over and grab your ankles so I can kiss your ass.

Also, in the interests of morphing this thread into a John Lydon love-fest, his duet with Africka Bambaata (sp?) "World Destruction" rocked.
