Does anyone else in the wide world of Suicide Girls besides myself and tatum recognize the quality and talent of this amazing group of people?

Please don't get on my case for enjoying their music. I believe they're talented, they're environmental activists, and inject such a high level of positivity into their music it's intoxicating. and they can't help the fact that they have stupid preppy fans...

plus i've been dedicated to them since '91 and will be forever. This August I get to see them for my fourth time live, and this time with my Tatum beside me! woo hoo!!

i don't care about how much allegiance anyone has to a particular band. They sound like adult contemporary; they are. It always sounds to me that they are just fucking around on the guitar with a really lame nu-top40-funk beat. Absolute trash. tongue

funny DMB story:

flash back to Roseland in Portland 1995

I saw Dave standing in the crowd before his show (small venue)and being the freshman geek I was I ran up to him and went into this monologue about how "Dancing Nancies" brought me out of a bad trip when I took way too much ACID one night and thought I died.

He was like "that's really great" and walked off.

I felt like the biggest Dork...

***
Anyhow, I used to be WAY into him, I'm not going to front about that. I Feel that his songs have been a little meandering and atonal recently and I don't like what these million-dollar producers like Glen "Wilson Phillips" Ballard are doing to his sound. That being said, they are all top-notch musicians (well except the sax player who ventures off into Kenny G land a bit too often). I really dig the Dave Matthew/Tim Reynolds stuff becasue its strips all the glitz and over-production from his sound.

DMB is funny because I feel that I'm not SUPPOSED to like him. Guilty pleasures are the best though right?

Dave Mathews Band perfectly illustrates the fact that extremely proficient musicians are quite capable of making music that bores the hell out of me. To site another instance, Joe Satriani is a really good guitar player... I mean he's good at playing all the notes he intends to play and quickly to boot but I'd still rather listen to a tool box falling down a flight of stairs that to one of his albums.

On the other hand there are a lot of bands with horrible musicianship that I'm quite fond of. The Ramones, the Cramps, Guitar Wolf, to name a few... None of those folks are exactly virtuoso performers but at least I couldn't imagine myself falling asleep at one of their shows.

All that being said, I'm not trying to bag on people that like DMB or Joe Satriani. To each his own and all that. I am a little extra anti-Dave right now though. I was subjected to about 40 minutes worth of that guy last weekend. They were playing over the loud speakers at the World SuperBike races at laguna seca.

I didn't care too much for Everyday and I haven't heard anything off the new album. Other than that, I really like them. I think Steffan Lessard is one of the more talented bassists playing today. smile

WARNING - PERSONL OPINION TO FOLLOW - WARNING

ICK! I absolutely detest Dave Matthews. It's crap and it makesmy skin crawl. There's somuch better stuff out there that hasn't been run through the corporate machine. He's right up there with Counting Crows and the Grateful Dead in my book. Yuck Barf Gross.

I recommend the Mountain Goats or Leonard Cohen or Robyn Hitchock or someone else who's name I can't recall at the moment.

BUt whatever, this is just my opinion and I'm entitled to it just like you are entitled to your so keep on enjoying Dave Matthews and I won;t bother you again about it.

I haven/'t listened to much DMD but I just saw The String Cheese Incident last weekend and was wondering if anyone here was into them.

Normally I don't get into jam bands but they totally blew me away. But then again any band that does a Hendrix cover is always gonna score major brownie points with me.

I think the dave matthews band is a perfect example of marketing over music, perhaps second only to that band live, or that other shitty band with bob dylan's son. the only reason they even exist is, as Bill Hicks would have said, to suck the almighty dollar out of satan's cock.

Not that I wouldn't gladly suck satan't cock, but.... the Dave Mathhews Band is entirely horrble. No offense to satan, of course.

Whoa. I'm SO glad that none of the SGs I like have been involved in this imbroglio. Hendrix? Agh! Talk about nonsensical meanderings on guitar! What a bunch of garbage! I tried to listen to Hendirix recently, and, even though I was drunk, I couldn't get into it. Fucking garbage! Dave M. reminds me of too many "cool" fratboys. Daterape, inc. Plus, it's bad songwriting and bad music. Why does this thread even exist? Dave M. should be washing dishes (if he's lucky) or arranging file folders somewhere. His music is absoluteley soulless. And that would be ok, if he didn't try to make it other than soulless honky music. But he is one of thoseassholes who is proud that black musicians play wiith him. He's canadian, too. Fuck him.

they have positive attitudes and are aware environmentally. great. more power to them! perhaps they will focus on those areas instead of music in future, and we will all benefit...
