Alright, I am sitting here listening to Nick Drake's suicide record "Pink Moon" and thinking that there are a shitload of good suicidal records/songs out there. Off the top of my head, here's a short list:

Nick Drake, entire "Pink Moon" lp
Joy Division "When will it end"
Negative Approach "Nothing"
Black Flag "Scream"
Burzum "A lost sad forgotten spirit"
Blue Oyster Cult "Don't fear the reaper"
Death in June "Golden Wedding of Sorrow"
Germs "Manimal" not for the words but the mood

There are so many more!

Come on, depress me! frown

I don't like these threads.

why can't they just be "Best songs to drown in your own self pity"

That's much more healthy.

Gloomy Sunday if you're into the classics. Plus Bjork does a pretty cool cover of it.

Come on Cash, self pity or whatever you want to call it is just as valid an emotion as love. Everyone sinks into the pit for a spell. Fortunately, there have been some amazing songs written about the downside. Two more that come to mind:

Rites of Spring "For want of"
The Smiths "How soon is now"

oooh, that is a good one! How about Echo and the Bunnymen "Killing Moon?"

Shit, I just thought of a better name for this thread. I should have called it "Get Into the Gloom." skull

I have the 12" with the 9-minute "All Night" remix. Much, much more gloomy.

I'm still short a cassette deck that connects to my turntable, but when that's worked out I'd love to.

If you're classically inclined:
Beethoven - "Moonlight" Sonata mvt. 1
Mozart - Requiem
Barber - Adagio for Strings

Otherwise, stick to Nick Drake.

Good call!

and Id like to add NIN; "Something I can never have".

That song always makes me cry.... er....... um *struggling to retain so-called badass image*..... I mean, it makes me punch stuff... and shit. word.

But if we drowned in our self-pity, we'd still be dead!
Maybe you mean wallow in self pity?
