Aside from being easy on the eyes, Swedish pop bands are all the rage lately. Dungen, Acid House Kings, The Legends, Jens Lekman and so on. Well, Jens isn't a band, but you catch my drift. Ikea isn't the only thing kids are rocking these days, that's for sure.
The Cardigans have set a September 19 release date for their sixth album, called Super Extra Gravity, but don't expect to see the band in person; at least if you're American. As quickly as they booked a US tour, they canceled the whole thing. Frontlady Nina Persson cited "family reasons" for the cancelation. Evndently, three of the Cardigans are daddies and decided they need to be closer to home.
However if you'e heartbroken about not seeing Nina, you can now do so on the silver screen. Persson recently made her film debut in a Swedish feature called God Willing, in which she plays a "Finnish tango dancer in 1975 Stockholm." Movies, canceled tours, records about gravity .... where does it end?
Super Extra Tracklist:
01 Losing a Friend
02 Godspell
03 Drip Drop Teardrop
04 Overload
05 I Need Some Fine Wine and You, You Need to Be Nicer
06 Don't Blame Your Daughter [Diamonds]
07 Little Black Cloud
08 In the Round
09 Holy Love
10 Good Morning Joan
11 And Then You Kissed Me II
This album is amazing, I've bought it a couple of months ago. If you like The Cardigans you gotta get it. Don't Blame Your Daughter is one of their best songs ever.
And by 'family reasons', what they mean is that the record company gave them a touring budget proposal that they rejected, but the tour managers still went ahead and announced the tour anyway.
You've been able to buy a "german import" here since Oct. 17, 2005. There was even a version with a dvd. America clearly has it's head up it's ass about the Cardigans. Their last 2 records have come out a year later than other countries. And then they get zero press even though the records are brilliant. The tunes are succinct, heart wrenching and well crafted. Are they more known/respected in other countries? Sweden? UK?
