Cool Dad. Cool Friends. Good Times. The Sean Lennon Story.
Sean Ono Lennon has been busy. Work on the new album is complete and we should see Friendly Fire this October 2nd, from Capitol.
To avoid issues with the periled sophomore slump, Sean has enlisted some heavy hitters from the entertainment industry. Sparks fly on the new album with appearances from Ryan Adams, Money Mark, Deltron 3030, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Vincent Gallo, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, John Zorn, The Boredoms and Ben Lee .
These are musicians with whom I have worked recently. Yuka Honda, Harper Simon, Jordan Galland, Money Mark, Matt Chamberlin, Vincent Gallo, John Frusciantes, Jon Brion, Jim Keltner, Sebastian Steinberg, Greg Kirsten, Ryan Adams, Albert Hammond Jr, Fonzworth Bentley, Esthero, and uh, ah yes, Yoko Ono.
So the announced guestlist might have a few more surprises in the liner notes. You can listen to the first single "Dead Meat" here.
In case Capitol had any worries about selling in the Beatles' numbers, Sean called in some favors from his more screen savy colleagues. A commercial/music video/short/featurette for the album has been put together. The commercial is to sell Sean as artist, and guests include Lindsay Lohan, Bijou Philips, Harper Simon, Carrie Fischer, and erotica star Asia Argento. The piece is directed by Michele Civetta. You can watch the trailer here.
It has always been my gut reaction to look at the offspring of legends with disdain. People might want to sympathize with the son of John Lennon, calling him a victim, a bystander to the public's obsession with his father, but Sean never really had to work to get Li.Lo. on the phone. (call me Lindsay) Despite my prejudice, which is unabashedly based on jealousy, I like almost everything I've heard by Sean, and Beck, and most of Rufus Wainwright for that matter. I just think their "Behind the Music's" will suck. That's all.
Maybe not Beck's. That one might be good. And Rufus has some serious drug problems. Alright just Sean's will suck. Stick with me kid. I'll make you a star. Photo Location
Im just happy knowing a new album is finally going to be out. hell into the sun came out in 98 didnt it? There were a few reasons why it took so long but mostly i guess he just wasnt in a hurry.
