In the movie, Bill Hurt refers to Vigo Mortenson's character a "broheem." What does that mean, and from where does the expression come? Anybody know?

???

That wasn't in the book that I recall.

Then again, from what i've seen on the commercials the movie is only going to slightly resemble the book. More's the pity.

It means brother. I beleive the spelling is 'Broheme' I'm not sure exactly which language, but I had an ex who called her brother that all the time.

I've used that phrase in the same context. Colloquial english is a bitch.
