Speaking as someone who doesn't care much for his music, Kanye West's stock has been rising steadily in my eyes lately.

Dateline is on NBC right now.

I just posted a transcript in the celeb group of what he said, word for word:

"I hate the way they portray us in the media. We see a black family that says they're looting. We see a white family that says they're looking for food & you know it's been five days because most of the people are black & even for me to complain about I would be a hyprocrite because I try to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what's the biggest amount that I can give. And just to imagine if I was down there, those are my people down there, so anybody out there that wants to do anything with the setup the way America is setup to help the poor, the black people, the less well off as slow as possible. I mean the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize that a lot of the people that can help are at war right now fighting another way andthey've given them permission to go down & shoot us."

And personally, I think he is an attention whore and he thinks everything is about him.

Whether I agree with him or not, I do not belive that was the time or the place. It was supposed to be a CHARITY show for RELIEF EFFORTS, not a soapbox for him to spew his hatred for the president.

well.. in my world, there is a concert for hurricane relief. it's just like the sept 9/11 celebfest, except without brad pitt answering phones. they have musicians performing and celebrities doing little bits about specific subjects (like how schools are affected). and i swear that was kanye west who had the most awkward live tv moment since ashlee simpson. he was on stage with mike meyers and deviated from the script by talking about how the govt gave orders to shoot black people and how he called his business manager to see how much he could give and ended it with "george bush does not care about black people" before some wise producer cut to, of all people, chris tucker to save the show.

That's some desperate business when you have to cut to Chris Tucker.

the way he was speaking was so awkward. it's like he had a friend standing in front of the show's cue cards with his own cue cards that could only show 2-3 words at a time.

i agree with you.. i caught the end part where he said "bush does not care about black people". i had my "wtf" face on.

every time i see him, i think that he died. and then i'm surprised that he's alive. and then i remember that i always think he's dead. and he's always alive.

Haha it reminds me of that SNL skit where Mike Myers is trying to sell pasta makers on the Home Shopping Network.

He looks and sounds like a nervous elementary school kid trying to read in front of the class.

I'm so glad they didn't edit it out for my time zone, that was funny as hell.

Probably really nervous, I'd say. I mean, I know I'd be pretty nervous if I was going to say that.

And on another note, do people really think his star is going to fall? It's not like the people who are likely to be up in arms about this the most are his fans.

I just saw the video, anyone else see the "what the fuck is wrong with you?!" look on Mike Myers's face when this was going on?

i dont have a problem with what he said. maybe it wasn't the right venue to do it, but when have celebrities ever not exercised an extremely public forum to air their opinions.

That's the most accurate description I've heard. He was standing there rambling and barely making sense like he was trying to tell us about his summer vacation.

It's one of those things where you have to wonder if it was some kind of a bad joke. It looked like an SNL skit.

He looked like he was just very nervous and frustrated, and I can't really blame him. Can't respect him enough for speaking his mind like that, awkwardly as he put it, he had something to say, and it's definetly being heard now.

And yeah, Myer's expression was classic.
