A hot option for heterosexual men, or no?

Can only certain men pull it off well?

the meterosexual is the beauty industry finally cracking the male 18-30 demographic. They've figured out they can double their profits if they make us think we need shit we don't.

Self improvement is mastubation.

Yes, yes they do.

Sorry, boys, but straight men who actively take care of themselves and dress well get more play from hot girls than men who don't. And of the women who DON'T like the "metrosexual" look, quite a few of those women still wish their boyfriends knew the value of things like "moisturizer" and "conditioner" and dressed slightly more fashionably. wink

Face it. The Neanderthal look is SO over.

No, it was invented by people who were tired being called wussies, pussies, pretty boys, and fags (and I don't mean to offend anyone at all when saying this).

amen. i don't like a guy who's more concerned about how his hair is looking than how i am looking, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a guy who isn't a cave-man.

my boyfriend is into dressing fashionably, and having nice hair, and having dinner parties with apple baked brie, and it's just nice.

though i DO hate the term 'metrosexual' due to hearing it from everyone every day.

If you're so insecure about your own "Self-Image" that you need to invent some bullshit "Identity" to make your self feel better, then you're hopeless anyway, and no amount of pomade or vintage clothing is going to make you cool.

"Metrosexual" is a bullshit identity for insecure people who are afraid of other people's opinions.

my point:

Be yourself. This is a tricky situation. If you want to dress nice, bake apple stuff.. be my guest and do so. But don't do it because you saw a TV show and realized you were inadequete. That's what I see when I see a metresexual.. I see insecurity.

Give me my jeans, give me my tshirt.. give me my baked potatoes and spaghetti. I'd much rather be confident and happy than pretty.

I don't like the term, but I do like that men are starting to invest in taking care of themselves.

Moisturizer = soft skin = better foreplay since your fingers aren't like sandpaper
Trimmed eyebrows = no more neanderthal look
Clean, pressed clothes that fit = better-looking body (even the heavy boys!)
Clothes that are your "type" and color = better-looking skin and eyes (the right colors bring out your features and skin tone)
Proper haircut = good for your face shape and completes your look

I never understood why it was "gay" to look your best. whatever

I'm damn impressed when I find a guy who knows how to cook.

Also, WHY is it such a bad thing to learn how to cook? Cooking for yourself can be healthy and much cheaper than box foods in the microwave and ordering take-out. smile

so when you see a girl who cares about how she looks and sometimes wears nice clothes and a little bit of makeup, do you see insecurity also?

i don't see why there has to be such a double standard between the sexes.

at first i was excited because i word described me.
and then it became this big thing.
and then i disavowed the word and decided that I best describe me.

taking care of yourself is perfectly fine. girls do dig it when they can tell me about the new Prada line, and I know what they are talking about. does it mean I do not want to do it to them? nope, not really. do they know that? sure. will it help my chances? yup!

I've got news for you, Jackspade: everyone on this site has invented some sort of identity for themselves. Whether you're trying to look punky, or vintage urban trendy, or even like you don't care about what you look like, you're trying to look like something. Some of us ('I've been called metrosexual by friends) find that looking "put together" suits our personality. Not to mention its important for some of us to maintain a look of certain professionality on a daily basis.

And how does not looking like a slob suddenly make you a pseudo-homo? Would anyone call Donald Trump gay? He always dresses well and has manicures. I think metrosexual is a poor name for men who know that looking put together is beneficial both socially and professionally. Plus all the girls I know like it, so go fuck yourselves. :]

Actually, yes I do. Watch Margaret Cho's "The Notorious C.H.O." She gave me the words to say what I'd thought all along.. just didn't have the words for it. It's advertising, plain and simple.

I am and forever will be a jeans and t shirt kinda guy, but when I have to dress up, I most certainly know how, and I look damn good doing it(If I do say sao myself wink ) I tend towards more classic style, so I'm not super into the whole cutting edge trend thing, but I agree that men should know how to take care of themselves. My only real complaint about the entire trend is companies repackaging their women's products (which those of us in the know have been using for years) in a blue and silver bottle and calling it "for men" It really bugs me, I don't know why.

I like a guy to bathe, but when either sex is too obsessed with the minutiae of fashion it turns me off. Simple hygiene and a little personal style are enough, I think.

well. the internet doesn't really allow for the full context of my statement.. so I have to really agree in a blanket fashion. There is taking care of yourself: you brush your teeth, you shower, you get your hair cut when you need it. Sometimes you spoil yourself with a manicure, you enjoy a back massage.. all these are good things. Then there is: you buy every cream and powder you can buy, you want to be younger, you want to be slimmer, you want perfection, you don't accept who you are. That voice in the mirror that tells you that you're ugly.. that's advertising. That's an image obsessed society. To me, it's bullshit. But I can smell both real confidence and fake confidence on people.. There is nothing more sexy than true confidence, no matter what package it comes in.
