The Young Ones appreciation thread

can we get a little bit of love for the young ones? i just watched the dvd's again, and it's amazing how much more lively and entertaining that show was than anything on tv today.

some of my favorite bits:
rick kicking in the tv in the first episode
the fact that their school is named "scumbag college"
when the woman got crushed by the giant sandwich and rick says, "that's just typical!"
pretty much any time neil gets knocked unconscious

A giant bomb drops in the kitchen undetonated. Vivian hits it with a sledgehammer..."Why didn't it go off?"

Mike nails his legs to the kitchen table.

This show is hillarious!

- When Rick is seudo-crucified outside the house and nobody even notices.
- Episode "Boring": When Vyvyan keeps smashing everything in sight and says "boring!" with each strike. Including Neil of course.
- When Rick starts playing with that girl's tampon at their party not realizing what it is and calling it mousey.
- Episode "Sick": When Neil keeps sneezing and the guys put a garbage bag over the top part of his head and Vyvyan ends up hammering nails into his head.

I have always had such a crush on Vyvyan... it's silly I know. One the other hand I really don't like Mike at all.

I heart The Young Ones... wish there were more episodes!! The bands look like they are having so much fun too!

i have a freind, rick, whom i have called "rick with a silent P" from 1987 till now.
the only tv comedy to compare since is absolutely fabulous.

i just remembered... in "flood," when vyvyan is building his submarine, and says he's going to leave special patrol group behind, and he flies across the room and bites him in the neck. quality.

lol i have them on VHS from yrs ago
and some are taped off tv

they used to play them on YTV in Canada!!!!!

I love The Young Ones! I have the DVD set, "Every Stoopid Episode" but I'm convinced there are episodes I've seen that aren't in the set.

one if my favourite shows has to be where neil egts 6 arms...ooooo....and i luv the show where they plant niel and there ends to be like 20 of hime around the house.
i havent seen it in so long and i will have to get my mum to get the dvd for me and then post it over here.

i hadn't realized they had put them on dvd. i will have to check that out.

i vaguely remember one episode where i believe they were drilling for oil in the basement, and vivian received a pick ax through the head.

i was a young one myself when i would watch them after 120 minutes. circa the kevin steal years.

I used to love seeing the cool bands on it when I was a kid But it is one of the best TV shows ever *insert witty quote*

The "lentils" scene is a part of my mental landscape to this day. "My delicately balanced crockery!"
Alexei Sayles also did some pants-pissingly funny stand-up comedy outside of the Young Ones, and Rik Mayall made some very interesting short films that I wish I could find (I saw them on PBS years ago). I have to admit, though, that "Bad Attitude On Tour" was nowhere near as funny as it should have been.

Ahh the Young Ones. No where will you find more Cliff Richards jokes in a hlaf hour.

Favorite moments:

Buddy Holly alive and well in Mike's bedroom singing him his new song as Mike adds up his share of the royalties.

The whole vampire thing was just a set up so they couldn't return the VCR in time and ended up having to pay for it

Wow..so many great moments from a fine series.

Neil: "Vyvyan, so, can you like, actually kill yourself with laxatives?"

Vyvyan: "I don't know, Neil, but I think we're gonna find out!"
