I have a question.

I have a friend who I've known in real life for around six to eight months, and has been a member of SG since January. Recently they applied to join SGAU however their application was rejected. From what I can see though, they meet all the requirements.

They've:
- been a member since January this year
- are active
- have a journal and pictures
- have eleven friends; three of which can vouch for their behaviour and character both on and off site
- have comments that aren't just praise for SG's.

They're also moving interstate soon, and would find SGAU very useful for networking, meaning they're likely to be an active member of the group.

The rejection notice left me rather confused.

Then to add to this, around the time they were rejected another member was accepted and from what I can see, they don't meet the above requirements.

While they've been on site for a year, they've:
- only made four journals entries over that entire time
- have made only five friends; all of which are SG's they don't seem to talk to
- have made only seven comments recently; four of which are praise for SG's made on various journals and boards, and three made within SGAU.

The feedback given to my friend was that they should endeavor to be more active in their groups and make more comments. There's no suggestion as to how active they have to be, or how many comments they should have, just that they're not currently doing enough.

While I understand these rules are important, and help keep creepies out of the group, I'm confused as to why the above rules seem to apply to some and not others?

I have spoken to you about this to you and there is no need to bring it up here.

I will NOT say any more on this.

Ok, but in fairness I did ask you some follow-up questions in my original message that weren't addressed, and your post does say that if we have any questions or feedback we should post them here.

Also for the record, I am not asking on behalf of my friend. I'm simply following this up myself because I'm confused over the process for selection and I'd appreciate some clarification.

There was thing in the other members profile that you did not see as they has changed it. So what you saw is different to what i saw.

Your friend was give feedback of her application I'm not going to talk to you about a another person application.

Milli,

Ampersand is not the only one confused by the application process - and I mean in a general sense and not regarding that specific application. I'm sorry, but I can not interpret your meaning in the first sentence of your last response to Ampersand at all.

Can we (bump up or restart) a thread in SGAU about whether the application process should be changed, with a view to clarity? Clearly the posted rules are not strictly accurate or, at the very least, are being interpreted in manner that is confusing.

Given applications are being rejected that strictly meet the rules as posted, it is undeniable that you personally believe that the rules of entry as posted make it too easy for applicants to get in to the group (which is fine - but should be made clear). Therefore, it would be good if we could all agree on a more black and white process.

For example [and I am not suggesting these should be the rules of entry by any stretch, I'm just plucking numbers as sample metrics] if the group agrees that applicants should have:
* 150 posts excluding praise for SGs; and
* be a member of at least 3 other groups in which they have demonstrably posted at least 50 relevant posts in each; and
* have 5 active SGAU members vouch for them; and
* have no active SGAU member deny them; and
* have been a member of SG for at least 1 month.

then at least the application rules could/should reflect that and would help remove any room for doubt on the part of applicants.

So, can we have a thread in SGAU regarding feedback on clarifying entry please?
