Considering the small-minded flack over Miss Canada, I thought it an opportune time to ask a question that's been on my mind for years. I believe sexual self-definition is a human right, and I have definitely seen many surgically altered models over the years. So why not transsexual/transgendered? I'm not talking drag queens, I'm talking full hormone therapy, living as a woman, the works. Apologies if this has been posted before (and I'm sure it has). I am not pushing an agenda, but an honest rationalization from the SG staff. Many thanks.

I've been wondering myself. I had also heard we had a trans SG but for the life of me can't remember who. I think its awesome. I think trannies are attractive.

Unfortunately because of MR I simply don't ever foresee a trans person ever going on FP unless their genitals are somewhat hidden and its not at all ovious they weren't born a genuine woman.

the hopeful that i remember definitely didn't show her genitals, except from the front, with her legs together....she was brunette, and gorgeous. there were a few other reasons i thought she might be trans, but i won't specify them because while i don't AT ALL mean them to be, they might sound offensive.

I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure there was one, who was archived back in 2002.

I certainly would not object at all to seeing transsexual SGs. The courage, dedication, and not caring about traditional popular western culture that just being transsexual represents is everything that I feel being a suicidegirl stands for. biggrin

Whether or not there is already one, it's up to the model to decide whether to reveal that fact. Not all transgendered women are going to feel comfortable revealing in that manner, even if they are comfortable revealing their body.

I'm sure once there is a model who is confident enough to put their gender identity out there, and lives up to the photography standards, there will be one. Until then, there's either not, or one that may not wish to be openly identified.

People who have had a sex change aren't termed trannies. Some people might not mind but really they should be thought of as simply male or female, having had a sex change smile pangenderness and stuff is super awesome though.

Transgender is an adjective, you don't use it in the past tense.smile

Let's talk about 'Tranny' (article)

"Tranny" is a form of hate speech (article)

There are plenty of wonderful sets that don't feature vagina. The requirements for an SG set are only exposed bums and breasts. If a set is well-executed, a pre-op trans woman could still very well become a Suicide Girl.

That is very very true ridley and a good point. I certainly wouldn't "out" somebody for being TG, as everybody I've met at the gay/lesbian center who has been outed by somebody else, has said that being outed was the worst and most traumatic experience of their lives.

I was under the impression transsexual is used to describe somebody who changed their sex, while transgender describes someone who dresses as the opposite sex?

Silencia, thanks for that info. I had no idea tranny was a slur. I had neever seen anybody correct somebody using that term before, so I always assumed it was a shortened version of transsexual, but I will be more careful not to use it now.

EDIT: I realized that my impressions of these words aren't necessarily shared by everyone. Here is the Wiki entry on transsexualism, which includes a section about transgenderism. Wiki article. Of course Wikipedia does not speak for everyone who uses these terms.

^^that explanation makes sense actually. Considering sociologists and feminists use sex to mean biology, and gender to mean the social construct, it makes sense that transgender would be used to describe anybody who changes their outer facade, while transsexual would mean someone who changes their actual sex. So while transsexuals would be included in transgender groups, not all transgender people would be transsexual.

It would not surprise me if out of a couple thousand and change (along with the hopefuls) there were a few.

All for the better really.

One of the more flexible aspects of social constructs is that (especially nowadays) it does not tend to follow a dimorphic system of categorization.

Freedom of expression takes on many forms and if these individuals reach a point where they are comfortable exhibiting themselves as a gender they weren't born with...

Then this community and on a delay, society in general is the better for it, I think.

Why would it matter?

How would it be anyone's business?

Is there some Suicide Girls checklist that I have have not been issued? Let's see one African American, one Brazilian, Two Swedes, and I just need an Uzbek to finish out my membership.

Finally after all of my years as a member I have learned that Suicide Girls are not shy wall flowers. So if there is a transgender SG and she wanted us to know we would know it.

Well, it might matter to other transgender people. An openly trans SG could make other trans people feel accepted. Much as openly gay celebrities sometimes help young gay people feel less alienated.

That said of course it would be up to the SG(s) whether they wished to become public.

Well said. The whole "let's just see people as people thing" only really works for those who have the privilege of already being seen as people.

My comment was opposition to the check-listing of people which degrades a person to a collectible.

And as I concluded in my original comment

Finally after all of my years as a member I have learned that Suicide Girls are not shy wall flowers. So if there is a transgender SG and she wanted us to know we would know it. (emphasis added)

Of course there is a good argument for outing people see Outweek of the late1980s. I have always viewed outing as a tactic that should be limited to hypocrites who are harming others.
