This is the place to ask any questions you have about:

  • Resizing an image for your profile pic

  • Help with getting a pic to upload

  • Anything else to do with uploading or preparing images for uploading

  • BEFORE YOU ASK! have you read our answers to frequently asked questions? I bet they will help you!

    Knock yo'self out!

    Sorcha made this tutorial for you:

    I hope this helps all of you who don't know how to add images to the boards, groups, and journals. I made this Mozilla and IE-friendly. I can't show pictures of what it looks like on a Mac. Sorry.

    First of all, you need to upload your pics to either SG or your own website. A good free image hosting site is Photobucket.com. If you're linking from a Google image, skip to #3.

    1) To upload pics to SG, make sure your image is under 100K (resize it in a program like Photoshop), and then upload it to your Pics folder.

    2) Next, open the image you want to use.

    3) Right-click (or just click and hold if you have a Mac) on the image, and then go to Properties:

    4) When it opens the Properties box, you want to highlight the URL of the image and then copy that text. Make sure it ends in .jpg or .gif! If it doesn't end in either of those, you have the wrong address.

    In Mozilla, you want the SECOND address. The URL looks like this:

    In IE, it's a bit simpler:

    5) Once you have that address copied, find the "Image" tag either under or next to your journal or under or next to the comment box on the boards. It's near all the smileys. (This is Mozilla's view).

    6) When you click on it, you'll see a box asking for the Image URL (which you've just copied). Paste the URL into that box.

    7) Hit enter, and you'll see this in the comment/journal box:

    8) Now, just hit Submit and look for your picture! smile

    This is probably because you are resizing instead of cropping. If you merely resize the picture, it may become distorted because the aspect ratio is off. If you crop it to the exact size, it should come out correctly. If this is all gobbledygook to you, someone is gonna have to do it for you. smile

    kighva, you probably need to clear your temp files so the new image will appear on your screen. Using Windows it's:

    -control panel
    -internet options
    -delete files
    -ok

    yes ma'am love love

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ok i used to be able to upload pics into threads really easy by going to the picture; right clicking it and hitting view source. then i would scroll down and find the jpg address that had the title of the pic i wanted. i would then of course copy that address and paste it in the thread with the img tags. now when i try to open it it's just blank... which i can completely understand and probably assume is for security reasons so people can see the site's source codes and stuff.
    i only did it this way because EVERY single time i right click on a picture and go to the PROPERTIES it gives me an address but not one with the jpg attached to it. it's completely wrong. even if i add the jpg symbol on the end it doesn't work. the address the properties screen gives me looks like this: http://suicidegirls.com/girls/Alisa/pics/3258/1/
    i can right click on the picture and open it in a new link and i can see the really long address that i know i need but it's only on the screen for a few seconds. and once the picture loads completely it doesn't show it ever again. no matter how many times i try to open it in a new link.
    aarrgghh it's drives me insane that i can't figure it out. please help!!! i guess it's no big deal but i hate having to bug a member or an SG all the time asking them to post them for me. thanks to anyone who can tell me what i'm doing wrong. it's probably something really easy that i'm just not looking in the right place or something.
    Well, to answer Alisa's question, I have to open the pic twice (but only because I'm using Safari; iCab & Firebird both have the option to copy the image's address). I click the link, then (right) click on the image to get an option to open the image in a new window. Then I get to see both the image & the address (*http://suicidegirls.com/media/members/1/88/38881/3258/61734.jpg*) in the new window.
    So...in a roundabout way...I'm doing the same thing as Alisa used to do before.
    (I don't know if that's a trade secret or something...)
    Hmm... what really helped me was a post from Clara in some thread saying that she saw a lot of people trying to post images with the URL of the page that comes up in your pics, with the caption and all, instead of the URL of the image itself.
    So what I've been doing, and it's working out for me, is right clicking the picture itself in My Pics, going to "Properties," and copy pasting the URL it shows me there for the image. I know it's kind of silly, and everyone figured it out before I did, but it works!
    nope i'm not... just plain ol windows 98 and i'm on a laptop computer does that make a difference? oh and it is the same computer that i was using before.
    awww fuck it. every bit of advice i'm getting isn't working. and i'm looking in all the places that's been suggested; but the address that's given to me in the properties pop-up window isn't attached with a jpg. at the end of it at all. and i'm not getting the address from the top of the new link window, either.
    if you go to the image that you posted (http://uk.f250.mail.yahoo.com/ym/ShowLetter/Picture_059.jpg?) there is a message saying you've exceeded your limit or something like that? check it out, it looks like you need to take some action before they'll give you your pics back. otherwise you did it perfectly, it's yahoo's problem not yours.
    EDIT!!
    OH i get why. yahoo won't let you link images from your mail. you need to save that image to your computer and then upload it to your profile and then link it. does that make sense to you?
    from what i unerstand (even though i can't find the right addresses) it's the same as posting them into board posts. but you just have to write out the [..img ] [... /img ] tags in front and behind the image jpg address. without the spaces of course.
    if you can post in a thread you can do it in your journal. just right click on the picture and go to the properties tab and copy the jpg address into your journal.
    good luck
