Larry King, the world’s greatest interviewer, grilled President Bush on Thursday. It was the president’s 60th birthday and he celebrated by letting loose with a flurry of lies and bullshit. Larry King, of course, did not challenge the deluded man at all. Let’s take a look at some of The Divider’s musings.

When history looks back, I'd rather be judged as solving problems and being correct, rather than being popular. The president that chases the opinion poll is the president that will have failed policy.

Failed policies? Iraq, Social Security reform, national debt of 8.2 trillion, Medicare reform, North Korea, medical Insurance, Katrina, the environment, gas prices, are just a few of the many failures of Bush.

Bush predicted that Republicans would keep their majorities in the House and Senate,

Because we're right on winning this war on terror, and we've got a good economic record. People are working under the leadership of the Bush administration and the Congress.

Yes, and that is why 39% of Americans are less likely to vote for a candidate who supports Bush. By 54%-38%, voters say they'd vote for a Democratic over a Republican if the election were held today. Democrats lead by double digits over Republicans in four issues: Iraq, government corruption, the economy and health care. Bush's approval rating for handling the war in Iraq is 33%, while approval for his handling of terrorism remains below 50%. And 69% of Americans say, “Things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track.”

Now babbling madly, Bush said if he had to make the same choice again, even knowing Saddam didn’t have WMD’s, he would invade Iraq!

We removed a tyrant. He was an enemy of the United States who harbored terrorists and who had the capacity, at the very minimum, to make weapons of mass destruction. And he was a true threat.

Nice. And wrong, according to Charles A. Duelfer, the chief US weapons inspector in Iraq, who issued a 1000 page report showing Hussein was a diminished threat and did not possess or have plans to develop nuclear, chemical or biological weapons. Oh, and Hussein and Bin Laden were enemies.

As far as North Korea and the recent missile tests, Bush is totally delusional.

I think he wants us to either fear him or pay attention to him. And I view it as an opportunity ... to get the Chinese and the South Koreans and the Japanese and Russians to work with us and send a clear message that this is unacceptable behavior.

How is that going? If you read newspapers, Mr. President, you would know that on Thursday Russia and China refused to back a Japanese resolution that would impose sanctions on North Korea for test-firing missiles. And North Korea’s missiles don’t scare Bush. First, because they just splashed into the ocean, and second because…

We've got a missile defense system that will defend our country.
I feel great.

You mean the one that doesn’t work? Retired General Eugene Habiger, who was in charge of US Strategic Command said “A system is being deployed that doesn't have any credible capability."

As far as disasters, Bush said the government is

Better prepared today than we were last year to deal with another hurricane disaster. We've got supplies pre-positioned. We've got a better relationship with the [National] Guard so that the Guard can move more immediately. We've got better communications.

We’ve got better communications. Just savor that for a moment. Better communications. If only it was true. Gregory Kutz, managing director of special investigations for the Government Accountability Office, does not believe FEMA will be ready by June 1 to deal with post disaster financial problems should a major disaster strike. And a recent Department of Homeland Security report concluded that all 50 states and 75 major cities are not equipped to handle a natural or man-made disaster.

Bush also spoke about America’s scary boogeyman, Osama bin Laden.

Oh, we'll get him. It's just a matter of persistence and patience.

Does persistence include shutting down the secret CIA unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden? The unit was broken up last year and the analysts were reassigned to other offices.

King made sure not to follow up on any of Bush’s ridiculous answers.

I just have to say OMG!!! Yah this man is delusional alright... not to mention a big fat liar. The thing that scares me worse is that the election system we have running now is really corrupt and I wouldnt be surprized if the republicans retained every seat they have now. I know what the polls say, but apparently our vote doesnt count.

More Bush-whack. It's sad what the belief in a non-existant all-powerful being will do to your grip of right and wrong... whether you're a Bin-Laden, a Blair or a Bush.

I am amazed every time Bush opens his mouth...just when i think i am numb to him, he winks and opens his mouth again.

I was blown away just 2 days ago when the sweet and beautiful SadieMae posted this link in her blog. Be careful, your jaw may hit the floor watching.

Come, come children. He's 60. Let him think he's right...even if it's at the cost of the welfare and civil liberties of millions of people. After all, it's not like we live in a democracy.

It wouldn't matter if you used your "right" to vote this past election or not. Bush was getting re-elected, no matter what. It's been documented how many votes went uncounted, not to mention the fact that the voting machines have aboslutely no paper trail or way of tracking who votes for whom (although they could with minimal effort). Add in a splash of a deciding state (Florida) being ran by Bush's brother, with both voting machine companies being ran by brothers (who are Bush supporters, and also employ felons in top positions), and there you go. Don't believe me? Here.

Now if only the Democrats could present an alternative. So far all they've been able to agree on is that Bush is bad. That's criticism not a solution. As bad as this president may be, I'd give the democrats a D at best as effective opposition. For six years he has been able to get what he wants.

Maybe the interim election will turn the tide but let us not forget Tom Daschel botched his very short lived career as senate majority leader. Maybe we should be raising more hell with democrats if we want to see a change. mad

This may be so but I would respectfully ask you to consider that while "we lost because of conspiracy" is sort of comforting, we may have lost because our party was unable to deliver a message that resonated enough to get those last 3 million votes. I wrote a paper on 20 reasons that Kerry lost with the premise that each reason was significant enough to have lost him 150,000 votes but might have won him considerably more had it been handled differently. As I said in my last posting on this blog, "Bush is bad" is not a strategy for victory. We need to demand more of the opposition in the way of substance and hold them responsible for the loss in 2004.

His body is in immaculate shape for 60, he rides his bike all the time.
It's not like its just something he took up to get healthy or stop drinking, When he was a little kid he had no friends so he was a little terror who rode his bike around town alone all day at top speed.
I am sure it kept him away from his completely dysfunctional family as much as possible, until it got dark and he had to come home at night and be ignored by his parents.
When he was a little kid his sister died, and his parents didn't even have a funeral.
I bet it makes him feel child-like to ride his bike all the time.
I wonder if that's why he goes to bed so early, too.

The man has the creeping senility of Ronald Reagan, The paranoia and personal demons of Richard Nixon, and the obstinate arrogant nature of Barbara Bush.
*sigh*

Ba-dum-bum.

Thanks folks! I'll be here all week. Tip the veal and try the waitress.

Hey-Oh!

Christ, Bush is just an endless well of jaw dropping statements. It appears there will never be a time when what he says cease to amaze/bemuse me. "Yes, our house is on fire, but we're saving money on the heating bill."
