Rush Limbaugh has reached a deal calling for the only charge against the him to be dropped without a guilty plea if he continues treatment.

Limbaugh had to turn himself in to authorities on a warrant filed Friday charging him with fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions. Limbaugh was photographed and fingerprinted and he posted $3,000 bail. He took a really pretty, smiling picture for his mug shot. Really, really nice.

The investigation has been going on for three years. Rush acknowledged he ate the pills like candy and then checked into rehab for five weeks.

Prosecutors accused Limbaugh of "doctor shopping," or illegally deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping prescriptions, after learning that he received about 2,000 painkillers, prescribed by four doctors in six months, at a pharmacy near his Palm Beach mansion.

Limbaugh denies doctor shopping. Under the conditions of his dismissal, Rush must stay in treatment with his doctor and pay the state 30,000 to cover costs of the investigation. He also can’t cram tons of pills down his giant face hole.

Rush his not heeding the spew that came out of his mouth on Oct 5, 1995.

Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.

They have a word for that, I think it starts with an H.....

This guy did so much Oxycontin (aka "Hillbilly heroin") that he lost his hearing. That's hardcore.

I'm no Limbaugh fan, but trotting out one tear year old quote for the millionth time is becoming tiresome. It's like saying that me being pissed about my iPod being stolen is hypocritical, because I took $20 from my dad's wallet when I was 13.

(Don't worry, guys, I got the iPod back. I love you, iPod. Let us never part again. kiss )

From a CNN article in 2003

I think people are stuck in the Clinton years (as noted by use of a quotation from 1995).

Ah...when Bill Clinton was president, the gum drops would spring forth from the ground like so many wildflowers, the rain tasted of honey, and we had not a care in the world. Oh yeah, and Rush was fat back then.

Its not one quote, what he did was not remotely akin to stealing $20 from your dad and you've reversed the timeline. It's dozens of quotes, consistently, that shaped public opinion and policy over a decade and a half. He was ranting about Joe Fernandez's admitted drug use thirty years ago while he himself was addicted to oxycontin. Now Mr. Lock up the Scumbags and Throw away the Key is all about diversionary sentences. For him. Fuck him.

Rush would disagree with you normally, but since it's his drug problem in this case I'm sure he'd be happy you're such a good dittohead.

I've never seen any quotes from him about drugs but that 1995 one. Maybe they're out there, but I've never seen them.

Because if someone says something once and ten years later does the opposite, you can't really call him a hypocrite. I stopped criticizing my mom for smoking long before I started.

Not to mention that you've omitted relevant parts of that quote to suit your ends. The full quote has a very different message:

"There's nothing good about drug use. We know it. It destroys individuals. It destroys families. Drug use destroys societies. Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.

While it's not quite the sensitive drug policy most people here would like, it's not the "Anyone who touches drugs should be put in jail for life" quote it's been used as.

Sensitive drug policy? Have you listened to Rush?

He's not about being kind or sensitive. There's not one once of real forgiveness in his body. He thrives on being right, 100% of the time. And when he's not right, he sets up straw man arguments about how people say he's wrong or dismisses it as a trivial thing.

And a happy, smiling mug shot is par for the course. He's happy for the camera - very serious approach to law enforcement. Shows a deep and abiding respect for due course.

He's a jerk, and I feel sad for people who blindly follow his flawed arguments. (You can still be a conservative and have taste - honest! But your ideas and concerns should be your own.)

Why doesn't anybody ever use those when discussing Limbaugh's drug habit? Every time I've read or heard a story on Limbaugh and drugs, they've used that first quote. Weird, no?

Man, the only thing I can like about him IS his drug problem.

He really lost his hearing from taking too much Oxycontin? Wish he'd been chowing something that made him lose his fucking voice, too.
