Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the day that local Port Arthur lunatic Martin Bryant opened fire with an AR15 semi-automatic rifle inside the Broad Arrow Cafe and began gunning down tourists and locals alike.
He would later re-arm with a FN FAL rifle and continue his wanton murder spree.
He killed indiscriminately, shooting down men, women and children. Bryant would kill 35 people before he was captured and many more would be seriously injured. In some cases enitire family lineages were wiped out.
Bryant was eventually captured whilst attempting to burn down the Seascape guesthouse. He stood trial for 35 individual counts of murder.
Australia now has some of the most stringent gun control laws in the world. Bryant currently resides in Hobart's Risdon Prison and will never be eligible for parole. Due to apparent murder plots by other prisoners Bryant spends almost all of his time in solitary confinement. Port Arthur is officially Tasmania's top tourist attraction. Once because of its penal colony past but maybe now for other reasons.
**My apologies for the duplicate thread, I had written this before leaving for work this morning but didn't hit submit until I got home tonight.**
