Ahh, you know, the news is always bombs going off and politicians either robbing you, lying to you, or doing things so stupidly counterproductive as to raise the question of whether they're incompetent or driven by sinister motive. A little variety in that formula is appreciated once in a while.

Nah, Check this out....
The U.S. economy powered ahead in March as manufacturing orders surged and home sales jumped by the most in more than a decade.
Orders for durable goods rose 6.1 percent, the Commerce Department said in Washington today, more than three times the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. New home sales increased 13.8 percent, the most since April 1993, to an annual rate of 1.213 million.
Yields on 10-year Treasury notes climbed to the highest since 2002 and traders increased bets the Federal Reserve will lift interest rates twice more before the end of June. Improving business demand and little slowdown in housing run counter to the Fed's forecast that growth will moderate after the first quarter.
``The numbers we're getting all indicate that the economy has maintained a large amount of momentum and that's obviously a concern to the Fed and will likely force their hand,'' said Joel Naroff, president of Naroff Economic Advisors in Holland, Pennsylvania.
The durable goods report is one of the final pieces of information feeding into economists' forecasts for economic growth in the first quarter, which will be reported on April 28. Excluding transportation equipment, bookings for items made to last at least several years rose 2.8 percent.
The world's biggest economy probably expanded at a 4.9 percent pace in the first quarter, the fastest since the third quarter of 2003, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg.
I just thought you'd feel privilaged knowing that the SuicideGirls CE Board has a bigger audiance than Air America is all...

Left-leaning new media has hit turbulence at the marketplace, newly released stats show.
A book hyped by major media as documenting a progressive revolution of "blogs" and political power, DAILY KOS 'CRASHING THE GATE,' has sold only 3,630 copies since its release last month, according to NIELSEN's BOOKSCAN.
[NIELSEN claims only 2,062 copies of DAILY KOS have been purchased at the retail level; the rest coming through 'discount' outlets.]
Meanwhile, the just released radio Winter Book [Jan-Mar 2006] from ARBITRON shows AIR AMERICA in New York City losing more than a third of its audience -- in the past year!
Among all listeners 12+, it was a race to the bottom for AIR AMERICA and WLIB as mid-days went from a 1.6 share during winter 2005 to a 1.0 share winter 2006.
During PM drive, host Randi Rhodes plunged to 27,900 listeners every quarter hour, finishing 25th place in her time slot, down from 60,900 listeners every quarter hour in the fall.
A network source says the radio ratings released today do not reflect the overall growth of the broadcast.
"The demos are better, and listeners trust AIR AMERICA to give them the real truth on issues and the Bush presidency," says the insider.
Ah-Yup.....*spits tobacco*....'aint no use in tryin' ta sell sumptin' if'n ye 'aint got no buyers... ye jes cain't git thar from 'ere...
1. Nielsen ranks are reported once a month. This means those sales were for a single week in March. even ignoring that 3600 copies puts it in the top 4% of annual book sales by title.
2. Books are not new media
3. Radio is not New Media.
4. New York is the most competitive media market in the country. There are no fewer than eight public radio stations with national NPR, Pacifica, PRI and in-house content.

where did he say PBS is a mouth piece of the left? it would behoove you to do some research into the corporation for public broadcasting. were you to do so you would quickly find that the current head is a former co-chair of the republican nation committee and a former assistant secretary of state under the bush administration.

Ummm, nobody who hasn't mastered capitalization should be disparaging anyone else's intellectual acumen.
That aside, new media refers to computer network disseminated data. The Daily Kos is, a book by Kos isn't, and the phrase "left wing new media" turns up a whopping seven google hits, all of them reactionary right. The idea that its a some broad and established catchphrase at all is one that you just made up.
As for NPR, its quite balanced in its content, it just uses words that people like you don't understand so you get intimidated and turn to people who pander to you.
Finally, if you think that nobody noticed that you ducked the entire substance of my post to retort with lies and insults, you're mistaken.

Wait. I'm confused. I thought the left controlled the media.
So which is it? Is the left so powerful it CONTROLS media or so impotent they can't even maintain one tiny radio network? Or is this another one of those right-wing positions where we are supposed to hold two contradictory positions in our heads simultaneously--like immigrants are draining our social welfare system because they are lazy sponges AND are stealing "our jobs?

A pointless recitation of rating services, something most anyone knows, has no bearing on the theme of the post which obviously has escaped your pedantic mind.
2. Books are not new media
Thanks for the enlightening fact and insight!
3. Radio is not New Media.
Again, we are in your debt, however, when compared to books, it is somewhat newer.
4. New York is the most competitive media market in the country. There are no fewer than eight public radio stations with national NPR, Pacifica, PRI and in-house content.
Uhhhhh.......golly gee who'd a thunk? A city of 8 million + could have a competative Radio market?? Your point being.....what? This is about as helpful as your study on the history of media.
5. You're really not clever enough to be as irritating as you seem to aspire to be.
A pointless personal attack, and again you prove the stero-type of liberals as being whiney snivlers. You start with personal attacks on a man's intellect and when I respond in kind you THEN say...
Finally, if you think that nobody noticed that you ducked the entire substance of my post to retort with lies and insults, you're mistaken.
What next head-injury boy? You going to tell your moma on me...or even worse....TELL MINE?!?!
The WHOLE point of the post was that the liberal message SUCKS! And even in a camp audiance as New York...NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT.
That is the point, and judging from your post, it totally escaped your superior intellectual powers.
Oh well, don't feel so bad Einstein, we can't win 'em all can we?

Erm. Wait, how exactly does the fact that the book sold 3600 copies in one week (thus putting it in the top 4% of annual book sales by title) not have any bearing on the point, when the point was, as you said:
The WHOLE point of the post was that the liberal message SUCKS! And even in a camp audiance as New York...NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT.
Well...apparently, by your own figures, people want to read it more than 96% of other books by title. Or, if you go by Amazon.com's numbers, last week there were only 29 books (out of all the books they sell) that people wanted to read more than that one. But yeah, you got it all figured out. The book's totally a flop. God, I hope someday I can put out something that "flops" like that.
In fact, you know what? Looking at Amazon.com's top sellers list makes me feel pretty darned good about the state of things. Why? Because this is Amazon.com's 14th most popular book right now, and this is Amazon.com's #1 Top Seller right now, and it hasn't even been released yet.
But yeah, you're totally right, nobody's listening to our message. You just keep on thinking that.

Okay, so because I know Swiftsure and his buddies would never in their right mind click on a link to Kos' site, here's what he had to say:
Bookscan just surveys a sampling of big box retailers, so it's not a complete market analysis. Merely a snapshot of major retailers (and not even all of them). And it absolutely fails to capture online sales.
So let's see. The book has been out three weeks. It has sold 5,100 copies of the special edition and 3,630 according to Drudge (if he can be trusted) in a sampling of the big box bookstores.
That's 8,730 right there. Now throw in the indy bookstores (we've probably sold close to 1,000 just in the book signing events I've attended), and we're getting close to 10,000.
Then there's the online retailers. Currently, CTG is ranked #25 on Amazon.com, and is ranked #5 in the politics category. Through the links at the top of the this page alone I've sold 700 copies of CTG.
So to recap -- top ranking on Amazon, over 10,000 copies sold in three weeks the book has been out. Distributors have ordered 50,000 copies of the book, which has gone through three printings already (our small publisher can't afford to do large first printings). And we're just halfway through our book tour.
And this is somehow supposed to be a failure?
Like I said, pity poor Drudge. He has really resorted to grasping at straws. The Right has so little going for it, that it's been reduced to desperately wishing this book fails.
Funny, actually.
(p.s. Notice how Drudge doesn't give stats for Glenn Reynold's or Hugh Hewitt's books?)
