A UK politics story just to show our lot are as bunglingly useless as their American counterparts.
The UK's Home Secretary Charles Clarke (the man responsible for the safety of UK citizens) is being urged to resign (again) today after setting free 1,023 foreign prisoners instead of deporting them, as the law requires.
Clarke has lost something, and I'm not talking about his razor.
Of these 1,023, there are a number of murderers and rapists. Under UK law, foreign prisoners are immediately deported following completion of their sentences, provided those sentences last for 1 year or more. EU citizens are deported if they have served senetences of 2 years or more. Clarke's 'mishap' has left dangerous criminals on the streets, most likely unemployed and living off benefits paid for by law abiding tax payers.
But it's alright-
'I do apologise. I have apologised, I continue to do so'
-Charles Clarke
Well, that makes it OK then.
Clarke has also admitted that 288 of these offenders were released into the community after Clarke's office were informed that this was happening, and yet they failed to do anything about it. He also admits that his department have no idea where these people are.
Between him and Miss Condescension herself Patricia Hewittgetting a good NHS cornholing today, I really have become exhausted with this crappy excuse for a Government...

He's lost how many? Perhpas a look down the back of the sofa might produce some results
There's a worrying trend in the UK for people to start talking about voting for the BNP and I'm talking about average people here, not right wing neo-nazi's.
This latest incident will only encourage more to start looking at the BNP as a viable candidate

That's right. The extreme Right will often profit richly from the fumbling of the Middle-ground. It just seems that the only policy the Government is consistently upholding nowadays is that of fucking up wherever and whenever they can, then telling us to like it.
Yeah Gothi you're right- its very worrying, especially considering what almost happened in France a few years ago.
And another guy today who was let out on 'good behaviour' from his murder conviction was done for raping some kid like a day after he was released.
Good work Mr. Clarke.
If only he could waggle responsibility away as easily as he waggles his ears...
I'm not much for public executions, but there is a small, violent kernel deep inside my heart that feels that incompetence like this should be rewarded by having a shot put through the back of your head, which would then be struck off and put on a pike outside the city gates as warning.
They're calling it Black Wednesday today: this loss of 288 prisoners since he took office, coupled with the already mentioned Patrica Hewitt's second failed speech this week to a group of disillusioned medical professionals and the shocking revelation that Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott had an affair with a woman 23 years his junior.
Shocking, because of the all of the people who were in Blair's government in 1997, would you have really picked out Robin Cook, David Blunkett and John Prescott as the studs? Er... No.
I'm amused by anything that proves your average European government is no less bumbling than its American counterpart. Maybe if I'm lucky, Silvio Berlusconi will give a press conference today,
Well I think Blair might have to accept it soon since today they've realised there are up to another 15,00 prisoners of foreign or unknown nationality in British jails which they hadn't accounted for until now.
You'd think by the time somebody has committed a crime, been arrested, gone to trial and served a sentence that somebody along the line might have tried to clarify their NATIONALITY. Its a pretty basic piece of information.
