February 2004

SEP 12, 2005 06:00 AM

So last night i was reading the paper at work, and there was a letter to the editor that made me ashamed to live in indiana... it was titled 'Punishing Homosexuals"

Punishing Homosexuals
Editor, Times-Union:
We cannot thumb our nose at God and not expect judgment.
How have we done this? By saying we don't want you in our schools. We don't want your commandments on display in public places. We want to live by our own rules.
The homosexual says, I want a different lifestyle. He sent AIDS but you keep right on. AIDS has killed millions. Some churches have even ordained homosexual ministers.
Abortion -How many babies are killed every year? There is a commandment that says "Thou Shalt Not Kill." How many people are murdered in this country every year -three or four times the number killed in Iraq since the war began.
9-11 was a wake-up call to repentance. God gave us a short time to see what would happen - no repentance.
2004 - three hurricanes hit Florida. The worse disaster to hit our country.
2005 - Katrina hits our country.
Don't you think someone is trying to tell us something?
Here is some scripture you might like to read: Judgment -Revelations 14:7; Repent -Revelations 9:21.
You haven't seen anything yet -Revelations 16:18-21

the fact that someone can be so ignorant is beyond me, and the sad thing is, i know there are other like him around here. another part of growing up in a small hick town in indiana. hopefully others here will feel my disgust.

its disgusting.. but not suprising. a friend of mine's mother was saying something similar the other day.. and she was born and raised here in the "big city" ...
i WISH ideals such as these were kept to the "hick towns" as the source but unfortunately they're not.. its really disgusting.. perhaps someday it will change...who knows.

boo to them smile

You should try living in the home state of Fred Phelps. Every time I turn around, I have to hear more of his anti-homosexual rhetoric.

I believe I saw some of his followers with signs reading "God Bless Katrina" while in Topeka yesterday.

Dear Dale,

While I don't wish any single specific harm on you, I do hope that you have a son or daughter. And I hope God makes it a really, REALLY gay one.

Fuck you buddy,

That didn't do anything to Alan Keyes.

Remember, those of us who were around in the 1970's, how we used to laugh at people like our letter-writer? Well, now people like him have a lot of power and money.. They have connections in our govermnent. They are threatening to make their way of life our way of life.

Again, if you were around in the 70's, you might remember the rise of cults,
Jesus Freaks,, gurus, etc. People join cults because their lives are spiritually empty. It is tempting to say that spirituality is bunk, but it is a human need that is seldom if ever properly addressed in an industrial society. Cultism is to spirituality what hard-core alcoholism is to light social drinking . I'm not an expert on healthy spirituality, but I do know that pledsging your life and your life's savings to this ministry or that guru is the fast track to a world of shit.

I hope if there is a god that he sent Katrina to punish intolerant asshats like the guy who wrote that letter for giving his followers a bad name.

these opinions are completely irrational.

God sent 9/11? Is that because he's on the Islamic fundamentalist Jihadist's side?

Christian Fundamentalism holds that all good things in this world come from God. As the US had lots of successes, and enjoyed good things, they believed that God loved the United States. Therefore any setbacks the nation suffers are due to the disfavor of God. This is much like in the old testament, where God punishes the Israelites by letting them be taken as slaves, and generally letting bad things happen to them.

So what the Christian Fundamentalists are saying is that if the US weren't so liberal (Being one of the most conservative Republics in the world) and evil, God would have saved the twin towers.

Of course, none of this makes sense. But that is the nature of faith, it cannot be questioned. If it seems unjust and cruel... well, it cannot be questioned.

And all Fundamentalism is quite cruel.

Well, to be fair, Cotton/Poly blends are pretty tragic.

I thought AIDS was created by the government to get rid of black people??? Or was it to get rid of the gays??? Both??? And the hurricane was created because the government is ignoring global warming??? Or was created intentionally by the government to get rid of the poor community in New Orleans??? Or because our president is so religious, he used hi-tech stuff to create the hurricane and global warming to make it stronger, then used it to get rid of a city that is so full of sin and get rid of the casinos???

Then I heard this crazy idea, that stuff just happens... we know that one's wrong.

I love how these guys use the Christian bible to their own purpose. There are tons of stuff in the bible that Christian won't even do. Say like sacrificing a goat.

Dear Dale,

But the Lord can only bring people to Him when His followers spread His word by reaching out to the lost with love and kindness in the example of His son, Jesus Christ. SO WHY ARE YOU KILLING EVERYONE ASSHOLE

I was driving around with a buddy a few months back and we got behind this k-car going maybe five miles below the speed limit. I don't care what anyone says, this is Massachusetts, if you're going that slow you better be having a heart attack or something. So we were stuck behind this fool when we noticed the hand-written signs in the rear window.
Massachusetts: Most Shameful State in the Union
God Will Punish Us For Allowing Godless FAGS to Marry
God Strike This State Down

There was more but I can't remember the rest. So take my innate Masshole irritaion at being stuck behind a slow driver, add my utter disgust in someone who would wish any harm to my beautiful Commonwealth and mix in my natural bad temper and an "incident" was born.

I'm glad I got a new car.

Time of cultural upheaval are always accompanied by surges of fundamentalism. Every society has factions that will not tolerate change. They're handy to have around. They scream loudest when the forces pushing them to the margins are greatest.

I say, bring on the crazies and make 'em squeal.
