All I can say to that is wow.... so very sad to see the desperation these people are faced with... I've seen this twice now and it hurts just a little more each time I replay it.

yet I read in the NY Times today that 46% in an ABC News Poll approve of Bush and the federal government's handling of the situation.

Who the fuck are these people??? If anything, you think that this spells out, in the clearest way possible, that the PEOPLE of the United States are simply not a priority for this administration.

To put things into perspective: Bush returned from his vacation to deal with the Terry Shaivo situation faster than he returned to deal with Katrina.

I hope he and everyone else gets the help they need, immediately.

It's amazing, apparently in my dads suburb in dubai the local imam has been going around to people houses asking for blankets to send to New Orleans and for everyone to pray for those ppl.

ot that its directly related
but there are so many people that are irritating me right now with their half-assed notion of helping
i mean obviously the governement fell short of what should really have been planned ahead for
i knew New Orleans was at risk, and im really no where near it or have anything to do with it, so im not really sure how the people whos job it is to be on top of these issues missed it.
but even stupid little irrelevant people are bugging me
like the radio DJs who keeps telling me all day long to donate to the red cross
which on the surface seems like a great idea
but what they keep saying is "Dont send clothing or food, because you cant get these things to the people in need down there right now, but what they really need is money, so just send money"
Of course they really need money, dont we all, but dont send the other things? Moron.
Im lucky if that last set of checks i wrote out to pay my bills dont bounce, and im still supposed to magicaly put gas in my car and buy some groceries. Money i dont have. What i do have is an inordinate amount fo clothes i never should have accumulated in the first place, and if they would take them id be more than happy to give them up
The whole situation just strikes me as snobby elitist head-in-the-sand thinking.

The Red Cross asks that you don't send these things, and explains why.

yes, i get that the red cross is doing its thing and they dont want that
but, this radio station is giving the impression that all those other things are useless, when im quite certain, after they get everyone out, that there are proper means to send these things, and groups that will handle it.
