I've been watching the coverage of Hurricane Katrina. And I just realized that most of the time, my focus is on the victims in the pictures -- the people being lifted onto the helicopters or that lay sick in the hospital beds. But then, almost always, there is someone else in the picture (e.g. a national guardsman, a nurse) -- the individual going out of their way to help that person in need.
Anyway, I don't live in the affected area of the storm, but I just wanted to take this opportunity while I still can to personally thank any of you members reading this who are a part of law enforcement, the military, doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, volunteers, Red Cross, FEMA, etc. for all of your brave and generous service in keeping me, my family, and friends safe and well. You are amazing!
So use this thread to express your thanks to all those amazing and generous people that help the rest of us regular folk out -- putting their energy, time, and many times their lives on the line for the rest of us. And if you have a personal story of being helped, please feel free to let everyone know about it.
