It looks like the police did it legally.

I hope that at future raves they have someone with press credentials and a camera - it seems like the police specifically tried to prevent them from documenting how the officers behaved.

Utah County Sheriff's Office Detectives interviewed several females that had attended a prior rave party in the Utah county area in the past month that had been sexual assaulted.

Wow, guess we have to shut the air force academy too, and every other place a woman has been sexually assaulted.

The truth is it wasn't (the Party) all legit. The county probable wouldn't of let them have it at all so they tried to slide by. They lost.

I've always thought that this was an amusing story about college kids trying to get around the draconian local dance laws around there...

Well when checking the Sherriffs version you need a mass gathering permit for over 250 people. That was the permit they did't have. It's the same in Texas. The County prob was carefull about how they went about it if they were smart. They said that they sent UC's in first and saw drugs, underage drinking, ect going on which by itself is enough to shut the rave down in most places.

the ripping up the permit thing is suspicious. so that is the ONLY copy of the permit ever made? No copies in the county office, no receipts, nothing? sounds fishy.

Were the soldiers really necessary, I think cops probably would've been ok. I hate situations like this, everyone knows the stuff that goes on in raves, lots of misdemeaor stuff, possesion, underage shit, and occasionally someone looses their wits and commits a heftier crime, no more so than any other concert. I've never seen anything to warrant sending in the marines.

But when you can't tell the difference between the army and cops, and they make a point of confiscating all the evidence of what they're doing, then there's reason to be worried.

What law/power is it they are using to confiscate those tapes?

I'm kind of worried that people out there think that the military would raid a rave. Even before joining up, I would have guessed SWAT, FBI, or Cobra Assault Troops, in that order, before thinking the US military was trying to bust my party.

Stupid spelling/grammar. blush

Why would you need a SWAT team or assault troops, or even a drawn weapon of any kind, to raid a dance party full of kids?

Obviously you probably wouldn't. My point is that it's even more ridiculous to need the US military for that purpose. That, and that it's a little silly to think that the US military is coming after your rave, you know?

So wait. The police came after a bunch of raver kids in full SWAT gear brandishing automatic weapons, and the raver kids are the ridiculous ones for misidentifying them?

this reminds me of elian gonzales. that photo that everybody was up in arms about; the fed w/ his gun pointed at elian in the closet, etc.

they draw their weapons because that's what they're trained to do. did anybody get shot? no. so why are people crying about it

Not the raver kids. The DJ who went on record for the story. And, yes, I think it's a bit ridiculous for someone to think that the US fucking military came in to bust a rave. Common sense!

Is there really a difference?

Combat-trained commandos in camouflage, full body armor and combat helmets, with submachine guns. What's the difference?

Shot? No. Tackled, kicked in the stomach, attacked by dogs, and tear gassed? Yes.
