On July 12, 2005, the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee adopted a resolution calling for the impeachment of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld for "high crimes and misdemeanors."

The committee asked Congress on Tuesday to immediately begin the impeachment proceedings, stating the Bush administration created "false justifications" for going to war with Iraq. Also stated in the resolution is that prior to receiving Congressional and UN approval, Bush and his band of brothers began planning and executing war on Iraq.

In addition to misleading the American people about the possible connection between Iraq and 9/11, the administration had no knowledge of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and simply twisted intelligence and facts in order to make a case for war.

The full resolution reads:

Resolution Calling for Impeachment of President Bush, Vice President Cheney,
and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld for High Crimes and Misdemeanors

WHEREAS the Downing Street Memo (official minutes of a 2002 meeting between British Prime Minister Tony Blair, members of British intelligence MI-6 and members of the Bush administration) reveals that Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld began planning and executing war on Iraq before seeking Congressional and UN approval, and

WHEREAS those minutes reveal that “intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy” with full knowledge that no evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq had been found, and given that President Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld lied to Congress and the American people to create false justification to launch war in Iraq, costing thousands of lives and harming America's reputation, and

WHEREAS new leaks of British documents provide further mounting evidence that the Administration lied or misled about “mushroom clouds”, “connections to 9/11,” and “war as a last resort,” as they sought United Nations, Congressional, and public approvals,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the San Diego Democratic Central Committee asks Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the San Diego Democratic Central Committee calls on the California Democratic Central Committee to adopt this resolution and urge Congress to impeach President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Adopted by the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee on 7.12.05.

It's funny, I was just walking up the street and passed a card table set out about how we need to impeach Cheney, the justification being the Valerie Plame shit. I'm not really clear on how that works. But I think they were crazy anyway. There were a couple of comparisons to Satan and the guy referred to Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld as a "kabal."

Hey, if you're in Pasadena, go wandering in front of the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on the Del Mar block of South Lake, and you can go bother them. Quick, go!

"To put it bluntly, if Bush has taken Congress and the nation into war based on bogus information, he is cooked. Manipulation or deliberate misuse of national security intelligence data, if proven, could be "a high crime" under the Constitution's impeachment clause. It would also be a violation of federal criminal law, including the broad federal anti-conspiracy statute, which renders it a felony 'to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose.'"
Missing Weapons Of Mass Destruction: Is Lying About The Reason For War An Impeachable Offense?, by John W. Dean, FindLaw, June 6, 2003

I also seem to remember Bush getting in trouble with the law. whatever smile

This just strikes me as strange because politically, san diego tends to be a pretty conservative/republican area.

Obviously the intelligence was bad. But pretty much everyone around the world figured Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Some people thought otherwise, but very few. France thought he had them, and France certainly wasn't in the business of cooking up intel for the Bush Administration. Clinton thought he had them, too, and Clinton isn't exactly a part of the ChimpyMcHitlerBurton cabal.

No. Starr was hired to inevstigate Whitewater, and he "found" the Lewinsky shit during his investigation, which took him 5+ years. He was entirely on a mission to find some wrongdoing (any at all) from Clinton they could use politically. That wasn't exactly ethical, either.

Yeah, he lied, but his lies look pretty inconsequential in comparison of our current administration, don't they?

It's funny how republicans react to this news by not discussing the actual accusations but with other diversion tactics. Face it, your man in charge dropped the ball and let his personal feelings get involved in starting this "war". Wether the information he recieved"was bad info" or not, he's the one that makes the call. HE should be the one held accountable. Fuck that blow job argument, becasue both that and this involve big lies in the end. thats the bottom line. surreal
I love you all. blush

Um, not everyone who argues with you here is a Republican. We'll see how many Democrats actually try to get him impeached. It won't likely be the majority.

In 2000, the election that preceded the Iraq war, I voted for Ralph Nader. Bush was definitely not "my man." I voted for Bush the second time around (couldn't stand Kerry's foreign policy) but I intend to vote straight Democrat next year.

This argument is a bit more complicated than Donkeys versus Elephants. There is a vast middle (center-left, center, and center-right), and I very seriously doubt the middle will favor impeachment.

It's vaguely possible impeachment proceedings could start, though I doubt it. But you have to get a fairly high percentage of Congress to actually impeach, don't you? Fat chance of that happening with a Republican majority in both houses.
