Surah 25, ayat 52 “so, do not obey the unbelievers and strive against them with the Koran mightily”

Religion, much like the Force, can have a strong influence on the weak-minded...
I quite like the idea in 3001 where all religions have been outlawed.

Good point, Stock. You've obviously studied the Koran intensively, been to many mosques around the world, met with muslims and thought really hard on this one. Vote Stockula.

Science fiction can also obviously 'have a strong influence on the weak-minded'. surreal

Do you deny that religion (and I do mean all religions, not just Islam) is responsible for much of misery, intollerance and bloodshed in the world, both currently and in the past?

Read up on the terrorists. Aside from all being Muslims, they all became fanatically religious in the months before their attacks, and travelled to pakistan.

You really dont think that Islam had nothing to do with their willingness to kill innocent civilians in suicide bomb attacks, do you? Is it some crazy coincidence that Muslims seem to do this mode of attack lately?

As far as I understand it, in most other religions suicide is a one-way ticket to hell.

In Islam, if you kill yourself doing Gods work...its a first class ticket to paradise, complete with lots and lots of virgins to do your bidding.

That may explain why Muslims carry out this kind of attack...

I'm wondering when Stockula's habit of trashing threads will stop being a reasonable expression of his opinion and start being hate speech.

There might be problems with extremists in the UK. People like Mohammed al-Massari and groups like al-Muhajiroun could do with some investigation.

There are football fans, and there are football fans. Some football fans watch the game at home with friends, have a few beers, and cheer when their team makes a goal. Some football fans go down to the stadium all painted up, start fights with fans of the other team, and when it's all over they start a big damned riot and make a mess, regardless of who won.

They're all fans, but there is a difference between a soccer fan and a soccer hooligan.

These guys might be professing a faith in Islam, but in my mind they are no more Muslim than the average Westboro Baptists are Christian.

They went to PAKISTAN? Everyone who goes there comes back a fanatic!

I've just totally side- stepped your point and made an obtuse argument. Annoying, huh? wink

Those things would most likely exist without organized religion. Religion was banned in Soviet Russia and it was still an intolerant, miserable place. Religion is an excuse for hatred, not a cause of hatred.

Yes, that's a good example, but let's see... 2000 years ago, Romans (pagans) fed Christians to lions for entertainment... Since then we've had The Crusades (Christianity Vs Islam) Puritans, Witch Trails, native cultures being forced to accept Christianity (Africa, Polynesia) The killing of Muslims in Srebrenecia by Bosnian Serbs, the current jihad that's going on... I could name more, but it would just be too depressing. Whether religion is an excuse or a cause, I think there's a pretty clear correlation between the two, and more than enough to give me a pretty low opinion of all religions.

So basically you think correlation implies causation?
