Supposedly the length of the passageway inside the great pyramid of Giza (from entrance to tomb) dictates the length of time the world is to exist. So they figured that puts the "end of the world" on May 5th, 2005.

Around 1ish, so at least we can fit lunch in.

The Black Hole theory is an interpretation of the Maya calendar. According to it, we know something should happen in 2012. What exactly, no one knows for sure.

Some think that aliens will come down the earth, take us in ships to whoever.

Some think that the poles will reverse (the magnetic ones), causing the earth to switch it's rotation (sun would come up from the west).

Some think the earth will simply explode.

Some think that we'll explore new dimensions of life.

There are a LOT of theories on this...but I believe that something -will- happen in 2012, what exactly, no one knows.

But it's hard to live with these kind of thoughts, it makes everything look so pointless.

Maybe that is when the thing under Yellowstone decides to go "poof"

It does look a little pointless, but really any of us could die at any time and we all will die no matter what, so that would make life pointless too.

I guess it is not worth worrying about.

That's what people keep telling me. It's not that I worry about it, it's just pops up in my mind. So it is false that I don't worry about it... It's just a deep feeling, instinct. Apocalypstic theories are merely an entertainment, a way like another to kill time. You can kill time with sports, music, studies. One way or another...

If you really think it's not worth worrying about, then you shouldn't worry about it.

This is different. This is (theoretically) a black hole, which would have the potential to suck in all matter around it.

So if it were stable, and could "live" outside the carefully constructed environment we created, it would sink to the center of the Earth, absorbing all matter it touches, and would eventually swallow Earth. I believe it would then start gravitating toward the Sun, and suck that in.

If I were going t try to destroy the world...i would use this method...it's definitely the coolest way to do it.

or could we perhaps harness this meathodd and be able to stop it sucking stuff in to it and then every home could have one as a brillient way to dispose of waste, ?

Meh. I'm going to go look for some psuedo-science, maybe invest in a reputable snake oil merchant.

They put on black pajamas, drank a funny smelling herbal concoction, tied plasticcanvas bags over their heads, lay down, and caught a ride on Hale-Bopp. Just like that, no more Black Hole worries.

Diseases. Slavery. Wars. European invasion on peaceful societies. Europeans were smarter, but bloody murderers. But you're question is dumb. Intelligence is one thing, what you do with it is another. We create useless objects and we call it "progress". They studied the sky and made prophecies. Europe is a big tricky jock and the Mayas were dreamy nerds, obviously they had no chance !
