Seems pretty likely that at least part of Keyes' lashing out at the gay and lesbian community at large last election is related to his inability to deal with having a lesbian daughter.

I think it wasn't part of it It was all of it. Thank God Cheney is open minded and accepting. Keyes is being a dunderhead.

i don't think so, but it depends on how you look at it. some people don't associate as "lesbian gay bisexual transgendered." rather, to avoid boxing themselves into one category, they'll call themselves "queer." it can also help in confusing situations. for example: a woman identifies a lesbian. period. she is a lesbian. and then she meets this wonderful ftm who still might have female genitalia but identifies and lives her life as a man. (or a wonderful mtf who lives as a woman but still has a penis) so..lesbian no longer a lesbian? lesbian now bisexual? confusion can result. thus, queer.

(note: mtf = male to female, ftm= female to male)

make sense?

I've heard it both ways. And I've heard arguments for both ways.
I think maybe one 'awful' would have sufficed.

Alan Keyes was asked point blank if he thought his daughter was included in the "selfish hedonist" category and he answered yes. To the press. that is just so mean and lame to use your own daughter for political gain. Especially if it means verbally abusing her in public. That guy makes me wanna throw up.

Alan Keyes sucks and his daughter rules.

Thanks for the links!

I think Transgendered is a more general term, meaning not just changing one's physical sex, but a blurred gender boundary in general.

Maya: Daddy, I want to be a famous lesbian but Ellen, Portia, and Melissa have that area covered. How do I do it?

Alan: I know sweetie. I'll talk shit about you in public and then you can rebuttle everything I say to the national news.

Maya: You'd do that for me? You're the greatest Dad ever.

And if you wanna be really hardcore about it, the idea of Queer has exploded into anyone who subverts, deconstructs, or problematizes, gender, sexual, or apparently any kind of norms, and exposes those norms as the constructed, ideologically fraught things they really are.

In fact, we can all be Queer, at which point it won't matter any more, and the entire concept will self-destruct. Hooray for academia.

As an side point, now that she's come out dear old dad has stopped paying for her education. The Point Foundation is going to pay her tuition, allowing her to go to college rather than abandon the life she wants to lead in exchange for being truthful about who she is. Of course, helping her raises their profile, so it's good for them too, but they also help out a lot of regular college students who are facing a financial crisis as well as the emotional hardship of being cut off from their family at a critical point in their life. Anyway, these people are some of the good guys in the fight for a more humane and just world, and if you want to help them out, you can donate using your credit card on their website Here. Those of you who are members already have the means to make payments online, please consider helping these folks out. Consider yourselves badgered.

First of all, the "awful" thing was a joke. I think Keith got it.
Secondly, Thistle is right. You would never call a drag king (woman dressed as a man) a transexual. Transgendered applies to anyone who prefers to identify themselves as a different gender than what they were born as. Transgendered includes people who have had surgery, and those that have not.
