I dunno what you two are talking about; Google groups does display email addresses.
Why would Google Groups listing email addresses be of any use to spammers? They can just do an XOVER command on an NNTP server and get the FROM: header email addresses that (you say) Google don't show.

That's a news aggregator, not a news source. Google does not write or publish news. It collects news written and published in other sources and makes it all available in one place.
its still media nonetheless - it limits/exposes what stories are read just like any other source
i'm not arguinging they code to bias certain sides
its just a news popularity contest
