A group of geeks has taken the law into their own hands after watching internet scammers get away with things for too long. The 419 Flash Mob have 'declared war' on a number of fake banking sites.

According to Artists Against 419's Web site, "This flash mob is in celebration of Chinese New Year...Our aim is to shut down eight fake bank web sites in less than 48 hours!"

The criminals who operate so-called 419 scams, also known as advance fee fraud, send out e-mails, letters and faxes asking for help to recover a large sum of money from a bank, in return for a share of the loot. Some of these scammers have now graduated to running their own fake banking Web sites.

The 419 Flash Mob is attempting to recruit as many people as possible to launch denial-of-service attacks on spammers' bandwidth and report them to their Web hosts and to legal authorities. The Web site provides contact details of computer crime units in seven countries.

Considering it is one of the fastest growing forms of crime, it's amazing that authorities seem to be dragging their heels so badly shutting down these sites. That said, should people really be taking the law into their own hands? If they do they'd better be pretty sure they're attacking the right websites, or they'll be seeing how quickly the FBI responds to an attack on a legitimate bank , which I'd guess is a whole lot faster than they jump on 419 scammers.

HELL YEA!

Why is it we question when someone sticks their fucking neck out for what is ussually the poor, and lower middle class victims of financial violence.

I think we should be taking shit into our own hands more often, but that's just me. I mean look what NOT taking shit into our own hands got us in Washington DC. (if you can't figure it out, think of pubic hair, or a large plant with lots of branches).

FUCK YEAH! I love it! Go geeks! love

I also love the guys who pose as underage children on the internet, then arrange a meeting with pedophiles and take their pictures and post all of their personal information online. I am okay with this sort of vigilante justice, just not the physical type (i.e. beating people up, etc.).
