French Deliver Tsunami Aid With Panache
By MICHAEL CASEY
Associated Press Writer

The French, who also are conducting relief operations in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, object to comparisons with the Americans.

"The feeling we had in France was that, as usual, the Americans were rushing in force to Indonesia and boasting about it," said flotilla spokeswoman Cmdr. Anne Cullerre. "For some people, it seemed outrageous.

"How can you really boast of doing something from this tragedy? People were saying, 'They are doing it again. They are showing off.'"

Geeze, next time disaster strikes we'll move at a more tastefully understated pace instead of rushing in ASAP. I mean, it hurts the pride of the French. As usual, we vulgar Americans don't seem to care about the feelings of other countries.

We should have just said "this is not our disaster" then maybe france would get it.

I don't give a rat's ass either way, but it seems to me that the French Commander is concerned about the boasting, not the pace at which the US arrived. The least you can do is read your own thread.

So, he's making a huge deal about America making a huge deal. It's like if I worked in a soup kitchen with another guy, but this other guy was telling girls that he volunteered in a soup kitchen to help him get laid, then in turn, I hold a press conference saying that I also work in a soup kitchen, but don't use it to get laid.

If it helped you get laid who wouldn't use it?

That was an incredibly long winded analogy involving sex and soup.

As all analogies about soup and sex should be.

Giving Aid to the desperate is something that should be done, without hesitation, and without boasting.

It's not something to blast about.

Well, I would normally agree. But forgive us for publicizing our contribution, because maybe 2 or 3 days after the tsunami happened, a real nice guy from the UN started chastizing "rich countries" for being stingy in relief contributions. It's pretty clear to whom he was referring.

So the US leaps in, tries to show that look, we're doing what we can. And for this, our best allies ever start calling us braggarts. WTF is France's problem?

who cares, it is only an opinion by some people. Maybe we did boast about it or maybe not ... The only thing that bothered me is that we only gave more aid after we were embarrassed by much smaller countries in terms of donations and the fact that we had a news conferences to tell the world how much money we were donating and that we were send our Navy now ... I wouldn't call it boasting , maybe just saving face.

Impending hostility with Iran, North Korea in control of a madman, and you're ticked at France?
