Republican consulting group GOP Marketplace LLC was slapped on the wrist Tuesday in U.S. District Court for disrupting Democratic voter access to polling places in Manchester, Nashua, Rochester and Claremont in New Hampshire in 2002. Company president Allen Raymond received a $15,600 fine and 5 months of jail time for conspiring with party leaders to ensure Democrats would have a hard time getting a ride to the polls.

The executive director of the New Hampshire Republican Party also pleaded guilty but has not yet been sentenced.

Court papers say Raymond and co-conspirators plotted to jam Democratic lines that voters could call for rides to the polls in Manchester, Nashua, Rochester and Claremont. A line run by the nonpartisan Manchester firefighters' union also was jammed.

The blizzard of more than 800 computer-generated calls lasted about 90 minutes on Nov. 5, 2002, as voters decided races for governor, U.S. senator and hundreds of other offices.

The New Hampshire Republican Party claims they only hired GOP Marketplace for telemarketing services prior to the election to encourage people to vote Republican. However, the executive director of the party pleaded guilty to the same charges.

Chuck McGee, former executive director of the New Hampshire Republican Party, also pleaded guilty. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

James Tobin, 44, regional chairman of Bush's campaign last year, was indicted in December and pleaded innocent. Tobin, of Bangor, Maine, had stepped down from Bush's New England campaign in October after the allegations against him became public. In 2002, he was northeast political director of the party committee working to elect Republican senators.

Attempting to restrict access to the polls, anyone?

Sure. I don't give a fuck.

Also. Anything a few zealous Democrats have done in the last few years pales in comparison to the inconcievable harm the last 4 years of Republican rule have done to this country and the world and the harm they will continue to do in the next 4. In my "evil" opinion, of course.

Me: Republicans suck and they control all three branches of government!
You: Democrats suck and... a couple of them keyed my car!

And how do you *know* they keyed your car because of your bush sticker? Nobody ever had their car keyed for any other reason, ever?

Shalome - Yes I agree those people involved should have there balls smashed in, because they did wrong. I also wouldnt stand for it because if a democrat did it I would want the books thrown at them.

The problem is not the general population, and yes the same issues happened in the past with the Democratic party as well. Id love to pull out the historical text on things like that. Hell the democratic party was the group that prevented the blacks in the south from voteing. Its beeen decades since that has happened in the democratic party, but it still happened.

Who is more evil the ones who did it now or in the past?

Sorry this one sided hatred of REPUBLICANS makes the bile in my throat come up puke . When the accusers like Diesalgirl and Keith seem to forget the heritage of there own party.

Yeah, the southern democrats were racists. And you know what happened to them after (Democratic) president Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act?

They switched parties and became Republicans.

That's why the south used to be solidly Democratic, and now is solidly Republican. Johnson knew it, too. When he signed the CRA, he said "We just lost the south for a generation." He was right.

I'm not interested in the evil of the past. I can't change that. I'm interested in the evil that is happening now.

Go ahead and pull out the historical text, because you're going to find that in the years following the passage of the Civil Rights act, those Democrats switched to the Republican party because Republicans became the party of segregation in the South. It was known as the "Southern Strategy."

Edited to say: Keith beat me to it.

Hell yeah we control it all. So quit yer bitching and find a hobby. Hating "Republicans" just shows how prejudice you are. I guess you're the type of guy that hates other politcal parties, religions, and races. Your statements only make it harder to understand why anyone would want to read any of your comments. First of all the last 4 years have been republican. I wont even go into the conditions of the military during the EIGHT years under clintion and some really terrible cutbacks that allow DORMS to have large cracks in them DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS. Yeah and the Republicans are the only ones who do terrible things.

As for the keying of the car I'll tell you how I know. There were key marks all through my sticker as well....... OHHH OHHHHH guess it must have been a angrey republican right? Because DEMOCRATS are good and dont do that crap.

I'll will always have issues with SOME democrat's politic views. I have never hated the majority for people being idiots. I dont hate democrats when Clintion froze the economy and made me miss a pay check, I hated Clintion for that.

Wow. Now who needs a history lesson?

And you guys are taking me far too seriously. Not that I don't have a burning hatred for "all things Republican", but because you're assuming (possibly due to my own word choice) that I mean "everyone who is a Republican".

Let me clarify. I don't hate everyone who is a registered Republican. I hate the Republican Party. I hate its politicians, its contributors, it's actions, and its ideology. The things that make up the actual party. Today. Not yesterday. I hate Bush, not Lincoln and TR. I don't hate everyone who ever checked the box.

You seem pretty worked up over that couple hundred dollars of property damage there. You're right, preventing voters from reaching the polls to exercise their Constitutional right to choose their representatives absolutely pales in comparison to some jackass keying your car.

Lemonnier- Absolutely right, so which party is better?

My point is niether party doesnt have a pretty smelling poop on the lawn. However from the first few replys I think some people forgot that, and decided it was ok to bash on all of one party due to a group of extremest idiots. Same kind of mentality that goes into hateing race and religon is seen in the posts above. The only differnece is its harder to show descrimination against a person with Party beliefs different from your own. Most people dont carry a big R or D around there neck.

Many abolishinists were Republican for years and years. Hell most people who wanted to free slaves were Republicans? Right? Then the Republicans ignored the plight of African Americans and party lines switched. The Democratic party then moved the African AMerican's ahead to a more equal enviroment we see today.

Kieth - You need a history lesson. Remeber when Clinton and the democrats stopped working for about a Month? Yeah well thats when the US government didnt pay people even though everyone was working.

Shalome - I am worked up because people like you dont see comments like the ones below as wrong. Hell you didnt comment on that being in poor taste did you? I had a buddy of mine hypothetically talk about killing Micheal Moore and I told him he was, "a fucking idiot." No matter how much you hate the views of one party condoning the actions, commments against another party is prejudice.

If its keying a car, to stoping voters its WRONG. Comments below are WRONG.

Or do you disagree? Do you as well believe the democratic party is a bunch of loveing people that would do no wrong?

Do you know what powers are within the scope of a President? "Shutting down the government" isn't one of them. The government shutdowns happened after Republicans won control of the House in 1994 and, led by Newt Gingrich (remember him?), sent Clinton an outrageous budget they knew he would veto. It was a trap. No budget passed = government shuts down.

How was that Clinton's fault, again?

You know, the "Well, you guys suck too!" argument really doesn't fly in this case. The state head of the Republican Party plead guilty to criminal charges. Show me one instance from the last 20 years where the state head (or anyone close to that level) of the Democratic Party was convicted of a crime regarding election misconduct.

We're not talking about shady campaign tactics or mean-spirited advertisements, we're talking about criminal misconduct meant to disrupt elections over multiple counties. The idea that someone with so little respect for the very process of democracy could rise that far in either party boggles my mind.

I'd say it's the one that didn't decide to support discrimination in a plan to gain political power in the South.

And I'm not saying all Republicans are bad people. I think most of the party's leaders certainly are, but people who vote Republican aren't necessarily bad. An awful lot of them are just misinformed, or like to be told what they want to hear. And a small percentage of them are voting in favor of their economic interests.

How can you say a lot of THEM are misinformed? Was there some research done on this? Who doesn't like to be told what you want to hear? It's the fact that someone changes their original ideas and then it becomes misleading is what's wrong. I don't see how you can make those statements.
