It looks like Toronto police have taken a step forward in a child pornography investigation, but it might not be in the direction they were expecting. Last Friday they released pictures of a crime scene, from which an abused girl had been digitally removed, hoping the public could help identify the location. They were "inundated" with calls, all pointing to the same location.

The sexual assault is now believed to have taken place at the Port Orleans French Quarter hotel at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Police in Toronto say they tracked down the hotel after releasing photos from a porn site, showing the locations of sex attacks against a girl who was around 12 years old. (...)[O]ne man who called to identify the hotel e-mailed his own vacation photos, and they matched scenes in photos that police had released.

Kiddy porn isn't exactly a warm and fuzzy subject anyway, but there's something really stomach churning about the thought of someone using Disney World to abuse children.

this is incredibly disturbing, and hauntingly familar for anyone who's read the dollhouse storyline of the sandman comics. Is it sad that the first thing this made me think of(after vomiting all over myself because of the story itself) was a comic book?

It's where children often are. I imagine it's the pedophiles' equivelant to grown-ups fooling around in public places where there's a chance of getting caught. Of course when an adult couple does it, the guy doesn't run the risk of getting beaten to death if they're caught in the act.

I think police forces have already been doing something like this, just without the public's help. If what's in the image is all they've got to go on, identifying everything from furniture to clothing must be what they do; and must take so much time and effort for such a small 'squad' of people. Wiping the nasty stuff and throwing it out to the public's a far more efficient idea.

The only possible downside is, the pedophiles who have the unedited versions can now get a thrill from recognising which is from what.

Hasn't this kind of tech been around for a while already?

I saw that link on Boingboing when it came out and I thought it was a really noxious, surreal thing... but the fact that it has worked in this case is a good thing.

Those pics are really haunting.

a friend of mine just did some research on the sex slave trade in the United States. They think that there are some 9,000 sexual slaves in this country.

The fucked up thing is that most of the children, get traded, bought, and transported through Disney Land, and Disney World.

Fucked Up doesn't even describe it.

For a pedophile Disneyworld is well, like Disneyworld (sorry, bad pun). Lots of kids running around. Parents not able to keep a prefectly close enough on multiple children at the same time, etc.

Hm, even though those pics were altered, you can still see a sort of mist or cloud where the little girl was posing. They remind me of ghosthunting pics, and really, the feeling is haunting. It's the day her innocence died,. I really feel like I want to cry! This is so horrible...

I just heard this morning on the TV that, during the first day of a carnival celebrated in Colombia, a two year old little girl was found raped and stabbed.

I mean, this world is so seriously fucked up right now, that people are not really able to let go, have fun, celebrate their traditions, OR their vacation to Disney. I wish I could find all pedophiles and castrate them, they don't even deserve to live...

How did they have crime scene photos and not know where they were taken?

"Last Friday they released pictures of a crime scene, from which an abused girl had been digitally removed, hoping the public could help identify the location."

Was this just a test to see if photoshop could help with crime investigators?

Well, if they have a picture of a crime in progress, and then remove the crime from the picture, what they're left with is the "scene" of the crime.

Some fuck photographed a child sexually, the pictures ended up in the hands of the police...there's a lot of ways that could happen but the point is that pictures aren't nailed down to where they were taken. The police didn't take the pictures...they took pornographic pictures of that they aquired some other way and photoshopped out the girl herself. Wherever the pics were taken was a crime scene and they needed to figure out where it was to maybe get some more clues, like maybe a hotel guest registry or whatnot.

Does that clear it up?

Yeah, but how do you get the photos, without knowing where it is?

By busting an individual with the photo, or a kiddie porn site. More than likely the police found multiple sets with with different kids with similar settings (the room at the disney hotel) leading them to believe that it is not a single incident and a reasonable chance it may still be an ongoing activity or at least lead to more clues to hopefully bust these guys.

this has been all over the news here. what the cops say happened was they were tracking an online kittie porn site and someone posted the pictures of the girl, so they took the pictures and in the attempt to identify the child and fucking asshole who's screwing up her life they released the editted pictures to the public and asked for people to identify the site. there was a fountain and stuff at the hotel in the pictures so they thought distinct things like that would help. they figure its her dad or some other amily member who is doing this just based on the info they have. they also figure she was about 9 at the time and 12ish now.

Disneyworld is about fake reality anyway. The whole Disney concept is like a cult. Disneyworld and Disneyland are last on my list of places I want to go, after Antarctica, Afghanistan and Iraq.
