so as much as i want one i think i'll wait for either the price to drop or the second model to come out. my friend keeps telling me to get a DS, but we had a demo unit at the Gamestop i worked at till recently, and it wasn't that impressive, the units were half a foot apart and didnt link up most of the time.
Also the whole touch screen thing and wireless chat and choice of games, i dont know, but i think the designers really didn't take the american market into consideration while making it.
its like they built it to have all the stuff the Japanese audiance would expect, and acccept and then just looked over at the US and said "Uh, it should work for you guys too... i mean look its got cool stuff, TWO SCREENS, and one is touch sensitive... aint that neat?"
Alot of the design principals are really centered aroung the japanese culture, and thats easily adapted to the culture of american children. But what about me, the 20-somthing gamer who wants to play while waiting for a bus or train or inbetween classes, and has the urge do spy battles?
When I got mine, I initially thought "What good is the second screen?" But the Metroid Prime demo convinced me that, for some games, it is god damned essential. It functioned like a mouse in that FPS, something that the PSP will not even come close to approximating. And in Super Mario 64 DS, the touch screen does a great job of approximating the N64 analog stick. It's not totally necessary for every game that's going to come out, but when it's put to proper use, the PSP has nothing that can match it.
I'm probably going to buy a PSP, too, though, when the price comes down. But all the extra features don't do anything for me. Movies? I should spend money to get movies I already own on a proprietary format that I can't watch elsewhere? Or music? It's not doing anything that mp3 players aren't doing better. Maybe if Sony left out all that extra crap I could afford to buy one when it launches.

poor nintendo... i am going to wait until they give it a price drop... and its fucking sony... it will be great.. i am sure they will fix that problem with the games shotting out of it
Why poor Nintendo exactly? You people are talking out of your ass.
Because something is Sony it's going to be great? Don't get me wrong, I like the Playstation 2, but I don't know anyone that didn't have to replace theirs, sometimes more than once, at some point.
