...Kojo Annan has told a "close friend"..

We've to believe an un-named source on the authority of one of Rupert Murdoch's newspapers?

This is perposterous! Everyone knows Republicans have never conducted a witchhunt before. And they love the UN, too.

The UN always gets a bad rap when it come down to enforcing international policy ... but people often overlook the other side of the UN agencies such as UNICEF , ICJ, High Comission for Human Rights, Relief agencies , etc which are actually doing their jobs ... But they should disband the Security Council and the General Assembly, they are pretty much just taking space .

And replace them with what?

In totally unrelated news, Colin Powell's son Michael has been busy protecting America from Janet Jackson's boob.

Apparently, they successfully dismantled Saddam's actual WMD program (which we sold him, by the way), and prevented him from ever getting it back.

nope,
those republicans have their hands completely clean.

they've never conducted a witch hunt before.
their not doing it with the UN,
or in Colorado,
or with the arab population all of the US

shit, the republicans are like the real "free loving" people that founded america!!!

Long live Neo-Fascism

(oh yea, p.s. I'm not defending the UN here, the oil for food program was fucked up, and wrong. The funny thing about it too is the the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT was one of the TOP 3 countries that PROFITED THE MOST from the corrupt program. OH MY GOD IMAGINE THAT!!!!)

I love how people can be outraged when U.N. sanctions result in the deaths of malnourished Iraqi children, then try to change the subject when it comes out that the reason those babies died is because Saddam Hussein paid off fat cats like Kojo Annan so they could all pocket millions.

Seriously people, this is ridiculous.

*Especially* because in the two-year run-up to the war you could open almost any op ed page in any newspaper and see letters to the editor talking about how much innocent blood the U.S. has on its hands because of those sanctions.

If Kojo Annan is an embezzling, kickback-getting dirtbag -- and there is a mounting pile of evidence to suggest he is -- then it has nothing to do with how much the Republicans hate the U.N.

Meeee-ow. The Wash Times link works for me, the UK Times one doesn't. That's why I put the lede in the post, so you could see what I'm talking about without clicking, registering, etc.

Let's be clear about the fact that this first investigation was deliberately limited in its scope. More work is being undertaken and that work includes subpoenas issued for four US citizens (primarily oil brokers - one of which has admitted his guilt and now seeks a settlement), and 3 of this country's largest oil companies (read it in their SEC filings). When the "director" calls for a wrap on this scene, no one's hands will be clean, here in the US, at the UN, or most anywhere in Europe. There was simply too much money to be made from what this first report tries to highlight as the key finding; procurement processes sucked and allowed fraud to take place.

Kicking the UN on this topic looks a bit too much like throwing the first stone, just prior to ducking.

The Oil for Food program scandals are to mainly to do with Saddam selling extra Oil, more than he was allowed to under the Oil for Food Program, also, saddam negotiated corrupt deals with individual corporations. It was up to the 'Sanctions committee' to monitor the operations of the OIL for food program. the sanctions committee included the United states who we now know knew about the corruption but they didn't do anything to stop it.
