I've been thinking lately about what I want to do with my life and feeling quite useless. And quite spoiled, watching all the depressing things on the news about famine and countries that need physicians and teachers.
I'm not sure where to look but I'd like to find an organization that will let me know all the details in what that work entails and what careers are open. All I can think of is the Peace Corps but I'd like to look into a few different organizations.
Any input on ones I should avoid would also be helpful. Thanks!

i would also look into community radio stations in your area and see what you can do to volunteer at those. i'm considering doing that at KPFK in los angeles.
i mean, are you thinking specifically education or the medical field?
best of luck regardless. i think everyone should do this at some point.
I think you have to have a degree to get into the Peace Corps, but not Americorps. I had a friend who had a lot of fun and learned a lot in Americorps.

I'm actually not sure. I'm just bearly starting college and open to most careers.
you can relax... no one knows what they want to do with their lives at 18. and if they say they do- they're lying. or boring.
Or they'll change their minds a few years later.
MaryB, most universities have a career center with career counselors who you can discuss options with. If that option is available to you, check into it.
You could always try and do things with Amnesty International (www.amnesty.com) Doctors without borders is another one. If you're looking for something schooling wise, you could always go into law and work to help the wrongfully convicted, etc.
