Marine Lt. Gen. James Mattis, former commander of the Marines in Afghanistan and Iraq, might have been a little too honest at a news conference recently.

"Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot," Mattis said, prompting laughter from some military members in the audience. "It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling.

"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis said. "You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

Maybe Mattis was trying a joke, but there are several problems with this. FIrst of all, expect to see these comments on every Islamic website trying to recruit fighters for the resistance in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

If we're going to claim a higher moral ground for building "democracy" in Iraq and Afghanistan, anyway, it's harder when our generals are out there giving speeches that would have been cut from Dr. Strangelove for being too silly.

I'm a little concerned hearing the phrase "ain't got no manhood..." coming from a Lt. Gen.

I don't blame him. The military is there to kill people and break things. I don't know if I can begrudge him for liking his work and joking with other military people about it. But still, what a PR flub. Geh...

The deadliest weapon in the world is a marine and his rifle. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your rifle is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead marines and then you will be in a world of shit because marines are not allowed to die without permission.

Do you maggots understand?

Yeah, because we wouldn't want our infantry combat commanders to be aggressive... whatever

I'm glad he said it. It's what Marine generals should say.

I can respect this guy, he's telling the truth. regardless how abhorrent the idea of killing and war are to the majority of the world they are a huge rush to those taking part, the best natural high in the world.

I always heard that the most dangerous man on the battlefield was a soldier with a radio... Little a marine with a rifle could do against a carpetbombing called in on top of his head

God has a hard on for Marines, because we kill everything we see. He plays His games, we play ours. To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep heaven packed with fresh souls. God was here before the Marine Corps, so you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the corps.

Is there anything Full Metal Jacket can't teach us? We used to have a major like that in the ACF. He was a fucking nut. An ex royal marine who'd fought in the Falklands he had more scars than years. Last I heard he was freelancing in Afghanistan.

I just worry about guys like this living next door to my family when they move home. Don't want my little sister taking a knife wound some night because a thunderstorm makes this guy's PTSD go off.

I'm also terribly sorry for the Iraqi civilians that cross the path of this disgusting man when his cock has been up all the day after a good killing session. It's no wonder that we kill 100K citizens when attitudes like this are a desired quality in a good soldier in a lot of people's minds.

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Michael Hagee praised Mattis as "one of this country's bravest and most experienced military leaders," and added, "Lt. Gen. Mattis often speaks with a great deal of candor. I have counseled him concerning his remarks and he agrees he should have chosen his words more carefully." This kind of reminds of the old Southern mayors who gave lip service to things such as civil rights and the constitution while secretly attending Klan meetings during the night under a hood.

To quote a British SAS officer when Jack Straw said they should try to be gender inclusive "We're not politically correct. We kill people for a living."
