Billboard Blitz to Blast Hollywood

Posted Jan 28, 2005
HUMAN EVENTS has learned that a billboard blitz "thanking" Hollywood for the reelection of President Bush will be unveiled early next week.

The advertisements feature the faces of liberal Hollywood icons Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Affleck, Martin Sheen, Chevy Chase, Barbara Streisand, and Sean Penn, and offer thanks to Hollywood their help getting President Bush reelected.

Two versions of the billboard were created, both "thanking" Hollywood -- the first for "4 more years" and the second for "W. Still President."

Billboard creator Citizens United, a group that advocates a return to traditional American values, has purchased the use of three billboards near the Kodak Theatre (home of the Academy Awards) for the month of February, which includes Oscar Night, Sunday, February 27.

Asked about the campaign, Citizens United President David Bossie said, "We're taking on Hollywood. We've done it in the past." Of the organization's many actions, one of its most famous challenges to Hollywood was Celsius 41.11, a documentary exposing "the truth behind the lies of Fahrenheit 9/11," the Michael Moore anti-Bush mock-umentary.

Mmmmmm, spitey goodness.

Look, I know Republicans/conservatives at this site like to flaunt their martyrdom status around here -- "It's so hard being a conservative at SG! frown "

Well, look, it's up to you guys to coherently defend your beliefs, but seriously, when the people gloating about Bush's re-election are also advocating "traditional American values", whereas this site quite clearly celebrates a rather different set of "traditional American values" (like, oh, freedom of speech and expression), then you can't be too surprised that you're outnumbered and outgunned.

I mean, this is exactly what NO member of SG shoujld be gloating over, whether you think Michael Moore is a fool or not.

Advocates of "traditional American (family) values" are your ENEMY.

Let's be clear about this. I'm not surprised to find "conservatives" on this site, meaning fiscal conservatives, small government libertarians and so on.

I am CONSTANTLY surprised to find proud Bush voters on this site. And this thread shows why.

Me too. It amazes me that open, *proud* troglodytes, homophobes, and misogynists come here. HERE, of all places. I mean, I know everybody needs to jerk off, but what the fuck? Were the 50,000,000,000 other pr0n sites on the net that actually CATER to republicans, homophobes, and misogynists not good enough?

And Christians! Ha! Man, I must've missed the part about it being okay to join a porn site during those 18 years of sunday school.... surreal

Every once in a while someone will make a comment here like "I don't like tattoos" or "piercings are gross" and I'm like... "WTF? Why are you HERE?" surreal surreal

Eh, whatever man. But surely it has occured to you that the whole pin-up, softer-than-softcore fare you pay for at SG.com is milder than what you see on European broadcast tv? That if there ever was such a thing as a conservative internet pr0n site, this would be it?

I am not a big supporter or believer in the traditional nuclear family, it's caused me a lot of grief and exasperation, and I dont want to form one of my own. But I hardly think it is "the enemy". Nor do I find conventional religious beliefs a threat. Nor unconventional ones, as long as they dont call for killing anyone who doesn't believe the same things as they do.

Don't bullshit, man. You know "traditional values" doesn't mean nuclear family, it means "we don't like gays, abortions, or uppity women".

You do understand my coments were not about THE NUCLEAR FAMILY or PRIVATELY HELD RELIGIOUS BELIEFS? I have no trouble with either of those. Nor was I talking about the artistic/erotic limits set around the bounds of photographs on this site. (Note also that the discussion topics in Dirty Talk and a whole slew of groups here go way beyond the softcore pinup area.)

I was talking about "traditional American family values" advocates.

Oh no, you don't understand that. My bad. whatever

May I ask you exactly what the point of hitting this nerve is? The only thing I can think of is rallying opposition to their causes. It's like they want to irritate the Liberals in to getting their shit in gear.

Yeah ,but it's really fucking childish and class-less, and whether or not they realize it, only drives more and more moderates AWAY from the Republican party, precisely when those voices of reason are needed. Read Christie Whitmans new book , she talks a lot of sense.
