Merry Fucking Whatever to all.

A Fairytale of New York

It was Christmas Eve babe , in the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song - The Rare Old Mountain Dew
And I turned my face away and dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas - I love you baby
I can see a better time When all our dreams come true

They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you, It's no place for the old

When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more

Sinatra was swinging
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on the corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing 'Galway Bay'
And the bells were ringing
Out for Christmas day

You're a bum You're a punk, You're an old slut on junk
Living there almost dead on a drip In that bed
You scum bag You maggot You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse, I pray God It's our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me when I first found you

I kept them with me babe I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone I've built my dreams around you

The boys of the NYPD choir, still singing Galway Bay
And the bells are ringing out for Christmas Day

The documentary "If I Fall From Grace With God" is one of the best docs I've seen this year.

You can't help but watch McGowan and not think about ensuring you drink in moderation. In the film, he is 45, but you could swear he's at least 65.

That is one of my fave Xmas songs.. I sing it at the top of my lungs whenever its on.
That whole cd is awesome for long drives.
I think its was Kirsty McColl who did the female part..?

For a read that just reminds me of this song-- 'Angela's Ashes' and particularly ' Tis' by Frank McCourt. Im sure half the world has read those books but even still.

My baby brother gave me that as part of a christmas gift. I'm going to watch it again to night.

"Fairytale" is one of those songs that just have a haunting/chilling feel to it, same with "Band Played Waltzing Matilda", , "Body of an American", and on and on. They don't have a bad album (some songs I don't like as much as others, but meh.....)

And McGowan did wonders for my self-confidence as a teen with bad teeth, cuz I knew they couldn't be worse then his.

Good point. Without that song, I probably never would have heard of her, and in the words of Shane MacGowan, "Why isn't she massively successful?" I suppose that's the record industry for you.

Favorite. Band. Ever.

"A Drink With Shane MacGowan" is one of my favorite books, too.

And what a sad thing about Kristy.
She had one of those perfect perfect voices that you'll not hear again.
