The Toronto School Board is standing frirm on the issue

It is also important to note that the Muslim canadian Congress supports the boards decision:

Tarek Fatah of the Muslim Canadian Congress said he supports the Toronto board. "These (families) want selective human rights that protect them and not others. These parents want absolute control of their children. They are scared their children will grow up with their own thinking, that young women will grow up with independent ideas."

There are, however, a number of parents who remain opposed.

Do most US states have same-sex education taught at the primary school level?

No, Christian parents would pack the school board, change the curriculum, fire the person who wrote the old curriculum and somehow work in "intelligent design".

Christian parents already do pack the school boards. That was one of the grass roots programs of the christian coalition back in the 80s.

How anyone who's actually had sex can believe in "intelligent design" baffles me completely... love confused

Correct - no blow by blow desciptions whatsoever. More along the lines of " some kids have two mommies...".

Yeah, good point! And of course, the whole time they'd be complaining about how they're being persecuted and discriminated against. frown mad

one of the examples I read about today was a film about how children of same-sex parents are picked on a school and the fear and pian that causes.

I listened to a radio programme today, and the stats for gay suicide amoung schoolchildren is frightening.

There is a school called "Harvey Milk High" for bullied gay children in NY.

I would have to disagree, r00kers. Though when I was in Elementary school, the subject was never broached, today's teachers are focusing on the issue of gay tolerance more-- as a pre-service teacher, I've observed in many a sixth grade classroom talking about tolerance for different races, genders, sexual orientations, etc., and in my seventh grade health class we did talk (briefly but it was mentioned), about homosexual safer sex.

I really don't see it as a huge issue. Parents should be able to raise their kids how they want. Most the kids will rebel around the age 13 or so anyway.

It has been my experience that only overbearing or overly-controlling parents who refuse to allow their children to grow up, raise rebellious children. But that's niether here nor there, Brinstar.

Parents don't have the right to raise their children how ever they want-- and if they did, the government (at least here in the US) wouldn't have CPS.

It is society's job to raise children-- and yes, parents are an integral part of that, but really, children are ultimately the responsibility of the "village" so to speak.

And that reminds me... did you know it takes a boat load of vikings to raze a village?

sorry, bad joke.

My point I hope, still holds true.

I agree sooner or later the children will realize how overbearing and closed minded their parents were and judge for themselves....hopefully
