Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will test new nuclear missiles in the near future.

Some say Putin is simply rattling his saber for the benefit of his domestic base. But in February Russia tested a new missile capable of penetrating a missile defense shield. Putin has stated Russia will “continue to consistently and successively build up the armed forces."

While a future clash with Russia is unlikely, this development exacerbates two serious problems. First, Russia’s focus on expanding its nuclear capabilities combined with its wretched record on securing nuclear material may result in more “loose” nuclear weapons that could end up in the hands of a terrorist group.

Second, Iran now has all the more reason to pursue an offensive nuclear program. A neighbor to the west (Iraq) is currently occupied by a nuclear country while a neighbor to the east (Pakistan) possesses nuclear capabilities. Iran’s regional nemesis (Israel) is an “unofficial” nuclear power. The Cold War arms race has begun anew.

great.

There is a civil war in the United States that starts in 2005. That conflict flares up and down for 10 years. In 2015, Russia launches a nuclear strike against the major cities in the United States (which is the "other side" of the civil war from my perspective), China and Europe. The United States counter attacks. The US cities are destroyed along with the AFE (American Federal Empire)...thus we (in the country) won. The European Union and China were also destroyed. Russia is now our largest trading partner and the Capitol of the US was moved to Omaha Nebraska.

This is what happens when Bush breaks previous weapons treaties by moving forward with missile defense (which still doesn't really work) thereby creating a political climate for a new arms race.

It's been said a million times, but still half the country doesn't get it... Bush is an idiot.

Well, I said from the beginning the Bush would reignite Nuclear Proliferation, and so it begins. That cocksucker is going to cause my grandchildren to have third arms. As soon as I heard we were starting to check into "bunk busting nukes" while telling the rest of the world they couldn't have nukes that Russia would jump in, publicly, sooner or later. And so we have it.

I tend to be a bit jaded cause I live in San Antonio, TX which has no less then twelve military bases/installations, several of which are the most important bases in the Air Force and Army Medical Corps. One of them is the biggest AF base in the world and houses everything from all basic training to some pretty heavy duty classified shit and we even have a few nukes on this base. Just greeeaaat. Now I have to move to Omaha, Nebraska. wink

I'm pretty frightened by Putin's recent grabs for power. If we're not careful, we're headed straight back to the Cold War days.

At least then I can start shopping my sequel to Red Dawn around to the studios.

Hmmm... let's see: Putin is developing WMDs, oppressing his own people, and he's sitting on a shitload of oil...

Guess we should be ramping up the invasion force here in a few weeks. I wonder what we'll call this one: Operation Red Dawn, or Infinite Something-or-Other?

It's stupid. If I understand the situation, this is how it goes. They have the bomb. Everyone knows they have the bomb. They know everybody knows. They just have never "confirmed" it. It's the putting your fingers in your ear and singing approach to politics. (I'm sure it helps cool an already hot situation, but it's a little weird.) surreal

It is kind of sad and kind of scary how Putin keeps edging his country further and further right, closer to becoming a totalitarian state once again..I mean i have a small dick too, but i just step on ant hills to make myself feel like a big man. I don't need nukes.

yeah, see, after learning more about the whole oil for food thing and how far it went into the u.n., i've realized that while the rest of america seems to be deluded as to what is really going on, the people who think they know what's really going on, don't either. myself included.

because now, i'm seeing where not only are we being assholes as a nation and a superpower, but we've far beyond pissed everyone else off and now it's all "america disagrees, well fuck america" and then russia starts developing nukes and i think it's for defense from "those buncha cowboy motherfuckers from out west" aka us.

i'm getting more and more scared as this year dies that we may all die in the next year. seriously.

Why should we be worried (rhetorical)?

I mean Russia is our friend right? Just like Pakistan (who we can thank for the threat of the dirty bomb), and Saudi Arabia (all 19 Sept. 11 hijackers had Saudi passports), and China (centuries of brutal oppression, Tibet, Taiwan, etc...). I mean if we slap around a few more backward, bankrupt countries in the middle east, the rest of the world will kneel before Zod...right?

You guys know they have been at this for 15 odd years? Scram jet missles, torpeado nukes exsist, cruise missle nukes, etc. I think its less a bid for totalitarian(SP) rule then saber rattleing that Russia is still out their. Since the fall of the wall Russia has perdominatly been playing a layered defense. With the americans creating a missle defense, not only can Russia show some world power it benifits them in local dealings. Russia and china are NOT friends. Infact for all intensive purposes they are in a mini cold war. Needless to say china is also designing a ground based balistic missle system. They are in very very beginning stages. Its a two birds with one stone thing, saber rattle that Russia still has power, tell China to think twice before seizeing seveal land disputes.

I think this should be seen less as a scare US tactic then a I still am in the game thing.

e_k Technically Isreal has not tested a nuclear weapon and no true confirmed weapons have been shown by the government. Many estimate (1995 esitment) around 120 nuclear missles. If you need more info I can pull out some trusty books on the subject.

Not next year, just over 7 years actually

At least in cold wars, people don't kill each other. Beats the one going on now.

Not first world countries, no, the real battleground of the cold war was the various financial and military hardware investments in Africa.
