The theme song to Team America: World Police (America, Fuck Yeah!) hilariously skewers gung-ho patriotism and the US military. And yet this very song was part of the military’s psy-op in Fallujah.

The soldiers shared laughs during the more surreal moments, such as when a psychological-operations truck rolled through the city blaring the theme song to the movie "Team America: World Police." In the film, Rambo-like puppets hunt terrorists and blow up the Eiffel Tower in the process. There is no need to thank us, the puppets tell outraged Parisians.

Ironic? Obnoxious? Hilarious? I post, you decide.

arg! this continuing lack of a sense of irony or satire, or even co-opting satirical irony for their own ends, is one of the things that bothers me most about this administration and those who support it.

cf. Bush's not-so-hilarious Where's the WMD? slide presentation at a National Press dinner event thingy
cf. Bush talking about how Kerry makes him wanna make a face during the debates
cf. My republican family mailing around pics of two dykey women holding "Lesbians Against Bush" signs during a protest -- as if the dykes themselves weren't being ironic

This administration just keeps laying terds all over the place and then keeps jumping up and down in their own shit, until people just think it's normal to jump up and down in shit.

Maybe the psiop guys were being ironic or maybe they know something we don't. When translated "fuck yeah" could mean something like "will eat you."

And even if it doesn't, this is still hilarious (in a really fucked up way).

nah, the final countdown is by EUROPE.

i didn't mean to imply that it was by DAC, otherwise i would've said 'or any other song by'

He was pointing out that it's by a band named EUROPE though, not that you thought it was David Allen Coe

I think it's nice that they finally retired the hair metal for this purpose. It's also a great song to listen to while having wild, kinky sex. smile

it's good that the soldiers have a sense of humuor. that kind of self-deprication can make it easier to cope with what they're doing.

War movies' intended effects are subjective. I saw FMJ and still wanted to be a marine. That bootcamp story was a sunny day at disneyland compared to what I had been through before I got out of grade school. I just plain don't have a lot compassion for people in general let alone those that would presumable want to kill me.
