done and done

i think this is the first time i have been up this early in quite a while.

i do feel better that i performed my civic duty

i hope that more people go out and vote today

i am not really concerned with everyone's politics at this point it's too late for that i just feel that if you don't vote you are cheating yourself.

edited to add that another plus of voting is now puff daddy won't kill me

Just got back from my precinct polling site. Took 45 minutes in line, in the rain, to do my civic duty. The wait will be horrendous for people who wait until after work.

(One nice thing- the precinct used paper Scantron-like ballots instead of the touch-screens of last year, or the punch-cards-with-chad of the year before. I guess they want to be prepared for a recount.)

Proud to vote!

Dixville Notch, the town that votes first has already closed their polls. Results are 19-GWB 7-JFK. Using their results as a forecast, they've been right about 19 out of 20 times.

There's still plenty of time for them to be wrong so whatever side you're on vote or I'm not going to listen to you whine about the results.

ARRR!!!

Editted to correct above numbers from 47-9.

Hart's Locations closed at 15 each.

This link to the Manchester Union Leader is running slow. It is probably getting a lot of action because there's an election or something, going on right now.

I just voted -- I'm spoiled and just had to go to the Senior Citizen Center across the street. It took me longer to find my keys than to get there.

We had scantrons too. We'd always had the punch-sheets before this. The scantrons were nice, but it took a lot longer. Michigan had a HUGE ballot this year.

They had two designs but wouldn't give me two stickers. I wanted one of each. Bastards. tongue

I was in and out within 45 minutes. It wasn't too bad, but it's going to be horrendous as the day goes on. My neighborhood is full of students who don't wake up before 11:00 AM.

I stayed up all night, because I reckoned, if I went to sleep, I wouldn't get up til late. I wanted to be done with it early. So, I'm an Ohio voter. It was of particular interest to me when i turned on CNN this morning to discover that the banning of challengers in poll locations had been appealed and turned aside in the night. My worries were compounded by the fact that my polling place, a grade school has been, shall we say...blocked off by a massive construction project. This started two months or so ago, and as it progressed, I found myself wondering if we were supposed to go vote at an alternate location. The Board of Elections provided me no assistance, so I talked to the school officials. It was then I learned of a secret back entrance...So, I told everyone I could about how to get to the back entrance through a maze of curvy back streets.

Anyhow, I arrived at the polls expecting huge lines and challenger sum'bitches to whom I would happily put boot to ass for my country.

But...nothing.

Sure there was a big line, but it didn't take long to get through. And i realized that even if there had been challengers there, I knew quite a few people around me. Not just the voters; that's to be expected to a degree. But among the poll workers. They wouldn't have stood for that shit. As it was, everything went smooth. Nobody was present to challenge anything (maybe they didn't know how to get to the secret back entrance...). Hopefully the process will remain smooth.

Took me about 30 minutes. People had a hard time figuring out the various lines that we were required to stand in...I wish my last name started M - Z...that line was so much shorter.

I was a littler over-zealous with making sure my ballot was read-able. We had those scantron-esque, "complete the arrow" ballots. It didn't help that my arm is still a little shaky from using the leaf blower all day yesterday.

In keeping with tradition, I wrote in my best friend in an election where there was someone running unopposed.

They didin't hand out stickers frown

But they precint is right across from house..that's a plus smile

Really? 19 out of 20? Because according to various and sundry news sources:

The hamlet is heavily Republican. Republicans have won each of the presidential vote in Dixville Notch since 1972 although Kerry's 7 votes this year are two more than Al Gore received in 2000.

Or, according to the Washington Post:

The result in Dixville Notch has never signified anything. The hamlet has voted Republican since 1972.

That would make them wrong 3 out of 8 times since 1972.

1972: Nixon won
1976: Carter won
1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Bush

I can't help but notice that over just a handful of posts, you've gotten quite a few facts wrong-- you might want to, and this is just a suggestion, check your assertions with google before posting.

I voted. It took about ten minutes for me to get out of bed, brush my teeth, throw on some clothes, walk next door, and push a couple of buttons. My polling location is my next door neighbor's living room.

No stickers, though.
