I woke up to find that someone on my friends list removed me because of my "Bush Cheney" Avatar.... And mainly cause I am a Republican.
Now I respect all you peoples Democratic views and not once to anyone have I said "DIE MOTHER FUCKER DIE!"
So I ask...:
What is your thought on this kind of prejudism? And would a friend being of one political party really matter wether he or she was a good friend or worthy of you coming into contact with.
Here is that message.. I just feel this is ripe for discussion since it deals on both lines of PREJUDISM and RESPECTING ONES OPINION.

ME:
Removing me from your friends list because im a republican? Oh I forgive you. But I suggest you take a good look around you and respect other peoples ideals.

Makes you a bad person? I never removed you for being a Democrat. I never said "YOU SUCK! YOUR GOING TO HELL!" because your a democrat. Countless times Have i stated in all my political posts "Good Luck with whoever your voting for and I respect that" Its no less being prejudice If I was black, muslim, asian, jewish Baptist... So in the move you did (again i dont care but other people might) Its extremely prejudice because like it or not... NEW YORK DOES HAVE Thousands of Republicans who live in this state, And people in this world do not have to think the exact same way about something as someone else.. We are just out numbered.

As for not giving me a chance? I would say it would be your loss. I would of never brought any of this up in conversation or asked you "where do you stand... blah blah blah."
The avatar is only till the election is over. Cause I fealt I got tired of never seeing any one else in support of my views that I would voice my opinion. Again. This is why we vote. and this is why there are two parties.

Oh and youre safe. I cast my ballot in Florida.

Wether you "give me a chance" is up to you. But ultimately... Because you removed me for being a Republican... Meens you do not respect me, my views, nor my party and frankly all the friend I got up here are majority Democratic and all it takes is a simple "Whatever dude. Goodluck with that"
And frankly I wouldnt want to be friends with someone who has that sort of grudge, selfishness, lack of respect, in them.
Its all good though. Cheers

Here is what I found in their journal in response to the person beleating me:

THEM:
I removed somebody from my "friends" list, because they have a "Bush/Cheney '04" avatar. Does this make me a bad person? Granted the person wasn't a friend yet, more just a friendly acquaintance, but is a politically revolting avatar enough of a reason for me to decide that he's not worth giving a chance? It's a perfectly legitimate reason as far as I'm concerned, but am I the only one who feels that way? Would spotting that avatar in your friends' journal entries make you literally feel queasy, the way I did? And as if it isn't already bad enough, the person is a New Yorker, too! I though I was fairly safe here! Gee whiz. Yuck. Ok, I've had enough of this subject.

There's a difference between respecting an opinion and choosing not to associate with someone based on their political views.

I can respect the opinion of someone who is anti-abortion. By "respect" I mean I am able to keep myself from belittling them.

However, my associations with people who are vehemently anti-abortion will never progress much further than polite small-talk.

This election is polarizing everyone, including friends and sometimes families. I mean, I fucking HATE George Bush. I hate him more than life itself and although I don't like saying it, I feel differently about my friends who support him. I don't look at them the way I did before I learned this.

So, in closing, supporting someone like Dubya is GOING TO lose some friends for you (and rightfully so.) But if he's who you support, it shouldn't matter to you at all and you should move on.

Just like this country is about to do tomorrow, with John Kerry as president.

See ya, Dubya.

You are all raising some excellent points. And for once I feal like I have started a discussion that we can all take something from. I thought it'd never happen.

Everyone has their own reasons for who they choose to be their friends and who they don't. I'd rather sit alone at lunch and read a book than associate with any of the people who work in the area around me.
Brief acquaintances are a lot easier to ditch for little issues though compared to childhood friends. One of my best friends is really really christian, and doesn't support gays being able to marry, but we've been friends for so much longer before he was like that, so we got history- but now, when I'm meeting someone and they say so much as god bless you, I'm liable to not become too close a chum with them.

Yeah, the only problem I have Lain, is what exactly is "PREJUDISM?" I thought this whole post was about some religion that pre-date Judaism...

I really don't care about a persons political preferences it is not something I think should be brought up in polite conservation...I keep my views to myself unless asked, and if you don't agree with me then fine, next subject.....

BTW...some of my best friends are democrats wink

Moved to New York in May of 04

I registered in Florida when I was 18 (lived there 12 years)

I didnt register in New York to Vote. Though I am a current resident and have the ID's to prove it.

Just hadnt registered to vote in NY.

Plus my vote meant more if cast in a state that actually had a chance to win with a republicans vote.

Absentee Ballot. A wonderfull thing
