For months Kerry has had a large lead over GWB in polls done in Hawaii. In mid September he was 10% ahead, then suddenly support seems to have plummeted.

A few weeks on Bush is shading it by 1%

Are these opinion polls bullshit or has Kerry done something to suddenly piss off the people of Hawaii?

The people I know/work with are just about split 50/50.

As to why? Does anything out here really make sense? Not too many younger people out here are registered to vote. And most of everyone else seems to be 50+ and super conservative (and totally in love with Bush and his "morals")

I could cry!!!! Please Don't let Bush carry this state!!!

Hawaii has voted with the winning incumbent every single time since statehood, including Republicans.

There's a lot of military personnel in Hawaii.

I don't know what the fuck is going on my my state.

Could be that 2 years ago we elected our first Republican Mayor in a really long time.

Could be our very large military population (approx 10%)

I'm heading over to the Dem HQ in just a little bit, I'll find out more there

all i know is i love your state and i want to live there. went on a cruise last month to all the big islands and im in love. hawaii is the best place i ever went to in america, for sure

this has nothing to do with politics, sorry

It could be the military, but the few people I know in the military on Oahu are more anti-Bush than anyone I know.

Something that shocked the hell out of me is many of my friends are pro-Bush. Most of my friends are 21-35, white and asian, middle class. I don't understand this

I am happy to say that my friends are Pro-Kerry... it is the people I work for (Baptists from Arkansas) that are Bush people. And their friends... all business owners... I think I see a pattern with them anyway...

Dude, your friends are confusing me too.

That's assuming of course that Bush wins. That family does not have a good track record in Hawaii.

2000
Gore 205,286
GW Bush 137,845

1992
Clinton 179,310
GH Bush 136,822

1988
Dukakis 192,364
GH Bush 158,625

That military sure likes votin' Democrat huh?

********************

Edited to point out that this amazing track record consists of a whole THREE elections: Nixon '72, Reagan '84, Clinton '96.

eeek WOW!!! eeek

That's impressive!

How does that disprove anything I said? Hawaii's only been a state since '59.

Another indicator is that whoever takes Missouri, takes the race. It has been wrong twice in 105 years.

Bush is currently leading in Missouri.

QUOTE]

Being Military I will say this the Bush War Machine looks like the way to vote, if you want to go to war with every Islamic nation that has oil. (Bush hates muslims and loves oil) No thanks, I would rather be afraid of having to leave the military due to budget cuts, reduced military readyness, reduction of military service members etc etc... But I was looking at the numbers for Hawaii and I think that they are appalling! How many people are registered to vote in Hawaii, and how many people are residents of Hawaii? I tend to agree with this man right here:

Zogby called it for Kerry saying, never has an incumbent polling at 48% won reelection...]

Edited to say this is just in the "never before in history category" and doesn't have anything to do with Hawaii
