Virgina Congressman Ed Schrock has dropped out of the election and resigned his seat in Congress after allegations that he was using a phone dating service to find men for sexual encounters.

As reported in a local Virgina paper...

“After much thought and prayer, I have come to the realization that these allegations will not allow my campaign to focus on the real issues facing our nation and region,” he said in a written statement. “Therefore, as of today, I am stepping aside and will no longer be the Republican nominee for Congress in Virginia’s Second Congressional District.”

The Congressman was outted after BlogActive released the story, along with mp3 audio of Schrock soliciting a date.

Schrock was given a 100% rating by the Christian Coalition while reciveing a 0% rating by Human Rights Campaign.

The GOP has picked Thelma Drake, a real estate agent, to replace Schrock as candidate for the seat.

At least he wasn't putting partners in government jobs. I do wish that Republicans had a more mature response to matters of sex. That way gay politicians could come out of the closet and address real issues instead of wasting time and energy concealing their sexuality.

Oh by the way, the Governor McGreevey of New Jersey was a hypocritical Democrat.

i'm going out on a limb here, but my guess would be that Shrock is hypocritical because he's anti-gay rights. the christian coalition isn't well known for backing canidates with progressive views towards gay marriage, generally. so it would be somewhat hyprocitical to have homosexual activites and be anti gay rights, yes?

and as for mcgreevy, he wasn't hypocritical, just a thug and a hack. now his "partner" who was blackmailing him is back in Irasreil with a grudge and all the information New Jersey's homeland security dept. gave him about any weaknesses and defense problems. not hypocritical at all, just plain fucking stupid.

Because he proclaims to be a born-again Christian ,who incidentally hate faggots, and turns out to be a defacto cocksucker...

I'd say he's a dead on hypocrite.

How about the headline reading
"Another Hypocritical Politician Outed"

Career politics, like organized religion, is the breeding ground of corruption regardless of denomination or party.

Alright, after looking around I see he voted "yes" on the marriage protection act. That doesn't necessarily mean he is "anti-gay"
Like you said, he is Christian and may see marriage as a religious ceremony. Marriage by definition is a man and woman bound together. Maybe by voting against it he was being anything but hypocritical by staying true to his faith.
It is too bad that his career is essentially destroyed because of his sexual preference.

for my dollar its a whole lot worse that a politican would vote against the civil rights of a group of people he is a part of just to keep his career moving upwards.

I figure he's hypocritical if he voted on anti-gay legislation and made speeches condemning gayness. Did he?

But then, he wouldn't be hypocritical if he hated himself. In fact, he'd be one the strongest, upstanding men I've ever heard of.....

So true, so sad and so true.

That said, I think I may run next year for something on the Libertarian ticket, because at this primary, I had to write in half of the candidates and there wasn’t even a write in available for several of the offices. It only takes 12 signatures to get on the ballot here. And while I may never actually win a seat, at least I could get into the debates and shake things up a bit. Would you vote for me kiss

Which is why I mentioned the Christian thing... He may believe in it in spite of how he was born.

It's relevant because it's a way to deflect attention from homo-hating republicans and put it back where it belongs... on a homo democrat. It's also implicit moral relativism. "our guy isn't that bad because, they have a guy who did something similar."

yeah bringing mcgreevy into this is crap, mcgreevy wasn't anti gay rights/marriage, mcgreevy didn't get elected with the backing of hardcore right wing christian fundamentalists. he got in the old fashioned way, through crooked organized labor. and for the few of you that made comments like "i don't see him being hypocrtitcal at all..." it's either becuase you're not looking or god is searing the eyeballs out of your head to protect your eggshell fragile sense of reality.

but as for mcgreevy, no one is as bad as him and this southern jackass isn't either, he's twisted ammoral and stupid, but at least he wasn't auctioning off his state's head security position for halfway decent head.

this makes me retch, and its going to happen a lot more i think. you're going to see more and more politicans stepping down because they are criminal scumfucks and then promptly wrapping themselves in a rainbow flag and anyone who happens to notice that they're so crooked they walk sideways and face front will be labeled a homophobe. wonderful.

First it was Jack Ryan. . .now it is Ed Schrock. . .Republicans are dropping like flies nowadays. Perhaps the House is in reach after all.

Unfortunately, for you Republicans out there, Governor McGreevey's resignation isn't going to affect the New Jersey governorship in the near term. He was smart enough to resign at the right time for his party and his cause.

Hypocrite. The man was living a lie, and denying the rights to others who take the flak for living their lives openly and honestly instead of sneaking off and sucking cock in back alleys while holding up the image of the conservative Christian family man. I can't believe there is even any question that he is a hypocrite.

Nobody denies his right to a private life. But since he actively works to deny a public life to others who are like him, while keeping his life on the lowdown, yeah: Grade A U.S. Choice 100 percent hypocrite.

what the fuck is mcgreevy's cause? i'm dying to hear this one. here for the last four years i thought it was taxing the ever-loving shit out of me to pay for an amzingly overbloated state budget that he ran into defiect spending anyway. and his resignation was the most slipshod piece of shit ever, he decided he'd resign not because he was gay, everyone in trenton already knew he was gay, he resigned because he was about to get hit with a sexual harrasment lawsuit and figured if he came out of the clostet first the story would be about his sexuality, not his corruption and criminal actions while in the governor's manison. even in resignation he's waiting to resign past the deadline so that his party won't lost control of his office. that's not democracy, that's party politics and abusing the system, that's horseshit, that is.

as for jack ryan, that was fucked up on so many levels. its easy to laugh when people with differing politcal views than you go under in a sea of controversy but did you ever stop to ask why his divorce records were made public despite the fact that neither her nor his ex-wife wanted them to be? sure, its okay to have a right to privacy, but only if that right is mentioned when bitching about the patriot act, right? i guess some rights just don't apply to polliticans who happen to have a different political affliation than you do.

this shit has to end. jim mccgreevy is a fuck up, can we all, everyone on both sides, just call him a fuck up? and so is ed shlock. you're an asshole when you're corrupt, regardless of what party you're in or who you fuck. jesus stop playing the partisan game and just call a spade a goddamn spade. its not a fucking shovel.
