Another one of "these" stories. You know the type. . .where we spend millions researching common sense, only to have a cadre of doctors shout, "Eureka, we've fount it!"

Apparently, kids who exercise. . .aren't as fat! Woah!

Strange, but true!

"This has the ability to affect tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of children. The implications are so big because this is something we can do as a society," said Nancy Chockley, president of the National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation

Jesus, but Ms. Nancy is a fucktard. How much does she get paid to be President of the NIHCMF? What a monster acronym.

Uunfortunately, studies like these have to take place so that doctors and other health officials can go to government agencies and try to make them change school policies...however it must not be working, since the same study has been done over and over and over yet north american (and i'm sure many other 'industrialized' nations) kids continue to get fatter.

I simply refuse to believe that there's some sort of magic hour called "exercise" that can cure obesity -- What our kids really need is more prayer in schools. smile

Time for us to start calling these morons on their shit. Here's my letter to dear Nancy. You can write her at nchockley@nihcm.org

She appears to be a pal of Tipper's by the way. Just love those right-wing-left-wingers.

Nancy,

You are quoted as saying this, in response to the study which states that exercise *gasp* helps young girls!

"This has the ability to affect tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of children. The implications are so big because this is something we can do as a society," said Nancy Chockley

Are you joking with us? You act as though it is big news that exercise can wipe the lard off the legions of roly-poly fat girls whose prematurely clogged arteries are the result of fat, ignorant, fast-food guzzling, Wal-Mart shopping American parents. I appreciate your statement, I suppose. . .but please, please don't try to make the American public believe that your organization is discovering, for the first time, that exercise is healthy.

Jesus Christ, Nancy. I mean. . . I'm totally flabbergasted here. You make NIHCM appear to be a total fucking joke with quotes like that. How about this instead, "This information is nothing shocking. Parents should know this already, and those who don't, well, they're probably too busy medicating their kids with Paxil and television, so we at NIHCM can't really blame them for not having the time to run around with their grossly overweight kids."

Cheers,

XX

SG.com folks - don't just get up in arms. . .start telling people exactly what you think.

Isn't there a more deserving victim for this warmed-up Dennis Leary horseshit?

I think children should be forced to grow up fat. Start them off on buttermilk, then feed them nothing but Big Macs as soon as they can eat solid foods. When it gets time for them to go to school, have an hour set aside every day where they get their asses kicked by the jackass who was left behind. Gym class? Nothing but dodgeball. As junior high rolls around, the torment of the prior 7 or so years should be enough to send them on a path of healthy eating and exercise.

Jeffy,

It isn't a matter of choosing just one person. There are many, many deserving victims. Go ahead, choose a few. Before you lambast me for picking a plump one, write a few of your own. This woman happens to head a foundation whose collective output affects, to varying degrees, the health of millions of U.S. children. I think that makes her a deserving target. Before you lambast my choice and tactics, why not step up to the plate and take your witty comments to the outside world as well. Come on, sunshine, let's see what you can do! In other words, it's quite simple to cast stones. . .but what is it, exactly, that YOU are doing to call our nation's feeble-minded leaders on their shit?

Okay, let's go at this in a slightly different fashion, so that perhaps you will agree to tackle the primary issue that I am trying to address. Cast no stones unless you are willing to do better, or can show a past history of superior performance. I'd be happy to peruse your letters to local/national leaders, to the editor(s), to corporate boards/directors/chairs, et cetera. Certainly, my off the cuff letter to Mrs. Whatshername was no glorious episode of writing, nor was that my intention during my two minutes of self-indulgent flippancy. You've proven to be quite adept here at SG.com, as your comments are, truthfully, usually on point and humorous. Perhaps an example from you will help me in my future endeavors. Step up, off, or back. That's all I ask of you now that you've decided to pick up the gauntlet.

Well, Jeff_Fries . .it's easy to take a cheap shot, but not so easy to step up to the plate. A shame, as I didn't think you were one to throw rocks and run away.

I didn't respond because I meant what I said. It's strange you asked me to explain it, because if I thought it warrented explaination I would have done so, but the fact is you were/are going to send an email to a lady for a study you think was dumb, written as an (awkwardly) spoken insult. You seem kind of overexcited and you overlook the fact that it's evidence in favor of physical education in schools, which is at least half a defense, in favor of having something to practice some overwrought rhetoric on. I thought all of this was obvious and I think it's weird you brought it up in a thread in one of the groups, because I don't know who you are, and maybe instead of trying to open a dialogue you should have attacked me back, because I haven't really changed my position.

Gotcha.
1. I agree that it was a silly letter. And it was meant to be.
2. I didn't know you had taken a position.
3. I didn't really want to attack you back, as I thought the dialogue would be more effective. You seem an intelligent chap, and I was merely curious from where the flak originated and why.
4. The notion that certain things warrant an explanation and others don't leaves little room for intelligent debate on the site. That's something out of stockula's book, and I know you're better than that. Sorry, stockula. . . you're just not loaded with debate skills.
5. I didn't overlook the article's position.
6. I am alternately overexcited and completely nonplussed. I strive to find the middle ground.
7. No need to respond to this. I'm over it, and I'm sure you are as well. Cheers.
