A car bomb detonated near two Humvees patrolling the outskirts of Fallujah today, killing 7 Marines and 3 Iraqi guards. This is the largest number of US personnel killed in a single attack since April.

The attack took place shortly after 9 a.m. in al-Saqlawiya, just outside Falluja — a city 35 miles west of Baghdad that has been out of American control for months. Residents reported hearing a loud explosion. Two large scorch marks were burned into the road.

Although the attack was the biggest since late April when a car bomb killed 8 Americans near Mahmudiya, a city south of Baghdad, it was hardly uncommon. Mortar fire and roadside bombs torment American soldiers in areas around Falluja in a province called Anbar. Five soldiers were killed in an attack in the province on Aug. 21.

I don't pray, but I can't think of a word for what I do for those soldiers. Right now, I'm hoping they come home safe.

I regret the loss of any Marines or other servicemen. Car bombs are a bitch to deal with for a variety of reasons.

On the other hand, any war where the enemy has extreme difficulty killing a squad of infantry could be much worse.

Oh same here, everytime I hear about a marine or someone in the air force I hold my breath because I know three kids over there right now. I hate it.

i just talked to my buddy this morning, that attack was at his base but he is ok. his unit was moved to a new base the day before that happened. he is soposed to come home on the 15th, hopefully they dont fuck him over.

yeah we do need to get out of iraq, but we cant just leave. we have to finish what we started, the last thing that we need to do is start a war without any major countries backing us then quit before its finished, that would be bad.

Do we (and by 'we' I mean the US gov't) have any idea what 'finishing what we started' means? What are the ending goals right now, and how do we know that we've achieved them? The only goals that I've been aware of are : the creation of an Iraqi government (Iyad Allawi et al, check) and a somewhat nebulous idea of 'security'. Does 'security' mean perfectly-placid streets? The creation and installation of an Iraqi police force?

I would like to agree with you, Humtuk, but I just don't know what our goals in Iraq are right now, or what they should be.

There are lots of soldiers being shot at over there. Are you suggesting all of them are racist?

And how many dozens of Iraqi civilians? Or are their lives somehow less valuable? You people, with your nationalism, and "concern" for lives make me want to vomit. Nationalism kills far more than terrorism folks. If you're going to fight an "-ism," fight the one that is at the root of your own twisted hearts - the one that your mammy and pappy shoved there years ago. You endorse the bloodshed, hell you revel in it, so long as it isn't a G.I..

My heat is not neccesarily aimed at AccNasty. . . but the rest of you sick fuckers who scream for carpet bombs while pining for the loss of U.S. soldiers.

[Edited on Sep 07, 2004 by sixblueten]

far more Iraqi's are killed by the terrorists over there then the ones that are killed by US Forces. and lets not forget the mass graves that were uncovered, but apparently that is not important nor the fact that Saddam and his government killed of thousands of people, but lets not talk about the fact that thousands of people stopped dying due to our liberation, while i don't agree with carpet bombing areas i do think that we need to get more aggressive with dealing with the Terrorists on the ground...

Are they paying $2.29 at the pump over there as well? What a crying shame. You'd think they'd get some sort of break. . .
