As expected, Apple has launched the G5 iMac today. Rumors have proved largely accurate, with the new iMac being a single unit, appearing to be a chunky TFT monitor, and available in either 17 or 20" widescreen models.

What if you could fit your whole life — all your music, all your photos, all your movies, all your email — in a computer as fun and useful as an iPod? Now you can. Introducing the futuristic iMac G5 in 17- and 20-inch widescreen models. The entire computer, including a G5-based logic board, slot-loading optical drive, hard disk, speakers, and even the power supply — dwells inside the enchanting display. Modern living starts at $1299.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet my next computer.

It does look familiar

http://applemuseum.bott.org/sections/computers/spartacus.html

By the way, I made that website when I was 16, when I googled for a picture it came up smile I haven't seen it in years.

Oh and though the new iMac doesn't interest me at all (the classic problems compact computers have always had apply, the portability of a desktop with the expandability of a laptop), it does show that they can miniaturize the G5's enclosure enough to make a PowerBook in the very near future.

And that my friends is very very good news.

Cool Operator

The speaker grill lets a trio of ultra-quiet blowers draw cool air into the system. These custom heat dissipaters can rotate at speeds as low as a few hundred RPM. Advanced thermal software spins them as fast or slow as needed and you’ll hardly ever notice them. Quieter than a whisper, the iMac G5 measures less than 25dB when idle (at the same distance of 50cm, a whisper in a quiet room measures more than 30dB). A slit in the back of the case allows heat to rise out the top.

Apple is great, it's like the Porsche of computers, it caters to a group of people who despise computers and think of them more as centerpieces to their spcious condos rather than a work device.... it ads to the total environment, improves your feng shui, and basically is good for about 5 or 6 tasks, one of them being email.

That's odd, cause I use my Mac at work everyday. Does this mean I'm not working? Cool! I also didn't know we were entitled to spacious condos, I need one of those.
