Many of the other speakers of the convention overshadowed Kerry. I was a little disappointed to be honest. I think he hit his stride about 2/3ths of the way thru.

Oh, I liked when he talked about the Saudi Royal family.
And when he plugged his website.

I loved these two parts especially:

And it is time for those who talk about family values to start valuing families.

And

I want to say this to you tonight: I don't wear my own faith on my sleeve. But faith has given me values and hope to live by, from Vietnam to this day, from Sunday to Sunday. I don't want to claim that God is on our side. As Abraham Lincoln told us, I want to pray humbly that we are on God's side.

I agree completely. If there is a god, I hope and pray that he/she is on Kerry's side...

I first detected the Lincoln meme being tried out a couple of weeks ago. Looks like they decided to run with it. American political discourse during the 19th century was full of referances to God.

Is going to be interesting how the Bush campaign counters in the next week or two. I'm just sad I'm going to be off of the net and off the grid so to speak for the better part of the next three weeks. No Media of any kind.

I only saw the end, but this whole convention has gotten me very optimistic. Why can't the Democrats be exceptional all of the time?

Because usually, like reasonable but opinionated people, we disagree amongst ourselves. George W. Bush has given everyone a reason to unite, and in that sense is the best thing going for the Democratic Party this year.

It was pretty much what I expected it to be. He gets criticized for not taking any stands on 'the issues' and not sticking his neck out, so he responds by doing it. And, for the most part in a way I liked. Good for you Kerry. You've made me excited to vote for you. Kudos.

Ah yes, the irrelevant embarassing photo vibe. How clever.

I thought Kerry did a good job. I was a bit worried he's seem like a block of wood up there, but he very much did not. The speech was well written too.

(Written in response to the irrelevant embarassing photo of Kerry. The Bush photo is at least slightly more relevant.)

I don't just pull out the jpegs for giggleshits, Keith. I do it when people go, "Look, it's Lincoln!"

I'm like, way justified.

"I will be a commander in chief who will never mislead us into war. I will have a vice president who will not conduct secret meetings with polluters to rewrite our environmental laws. I will have a secretary of defense who will listen to the best advice of our military leaders. And I will appoint an attorney general who actually upholds the constitution of the United States."

I caught the replay on CSPAN. I was fucking bored stiff. I doubt the Kerry ticket will get much of a bump in the polls because of that speech.

While Kerry will never be as charismatic as Bill Clinton at the mic, he speach was better than I expected. Far better than you typical GWB speach.
