having been an assistant manager at 2 starbucks in florida a couple of years back all i can say is good luck to the ny baristas trying to unionize. if memory serves me right, any attempt by a barista to unionize or join a union is immediate grounds for termination. it's in the employee handbook

That is really dumb think to put in the employee handbook, and is completely illegal.

Somehow, I gotta believe Starbucks has the benefit of good legal counsel. I'm pretty sure they don't have illegal statements in their official employee handbook.

Then the handbook doesn't say what throatneedle says it says. The NLRA is pretty clear that it is illegal to fire or threaten to fire someone for lawful union activity.

Do you believe everything you read on a porn site message board? Oh yeah...I forgot...you do. You need to get out more. There's this thing called the "real world" that you need a little experience with.

Dear people-who-take-things-way-too-seriously,

It was a sarcastic joke. If you didn't get it, you are probably a Socialist. I'll explain it for the liberals: unionization raises business costs which are then passed on to the consumer, so the ridiculous prices Starbucks charges for a cup of coffee will rise to stupifying new heights, i.e $12.

If only a sense of humor was as cheap, the CE boards would be a lot more fun.

Care to back up your assertion please? If for anything but to further humor me? whatever

If all you care about is the bottom line and cheap prices, why not just roll back laws against child labor...it's not like children need real wages to live on, just that extra money for their playstation games and playground crack dealers.

Unionization of the employees is done with one goal in mind: raise the compensation of the union members. This is done with wage increases and benefit packages (healthcare, retirement, stock options). The company employing the union workers have two ways they can pay for this added cost of labor. They can reduce the amount of profit they take from their gross sales, or they can add it to the price of their product.

Yes, the amount of a cup of 'union' coffee was exaggerated intentionally. More as a comment on Starbucks high prices than on the actual cost that union wages would add. However, your attempt to 'strawman' this argument was just pitiful.

Get a sense of humor, will ya?
