Coincidence? or It might be so common to have one theses days it's like having a Facebook page?

Even if their online precens might not be why they are missing I want to say this:

I cross-posted this in my Crime group on here but wanted to take this to the boards, be safe when meeting people you found online! Check out your photographer before agreeing to a meeting, trust your gut feeling.

Abso-frickin-lutely! This can't be stressed enough. It's amazing how much trust some people put in others that they've never met. I think it's becoming more common because young people today have never lived in a world without the internet.

With people like the Craigslist Killer out there....and I know there's an SG who dealt with a photographer in a high-profile case who ended up murdering one of the women who modeled for him.....young people especially, need to be made aware of the inherent dangers of predators.

Take an escort when you shoot! Even someone you've met and have a good feeling about can end up being Ted Bundy.

I don't work in this world, but 'team modeling' seems like a really good idea.

I did know a photographer at one point and he was a major league classic 'dirty old man' but not violent, just, i imagine, annoying to a large number of models.

If and where possible, I think this is a good idea.

As someone who lives in the area where these cases are happening, only one of them seems to be related to modeling at all.

But yeah, I personally never take jobs unless they pay well and allow me to take an escort. I also take my husband as an escort with me. It's sad that some girls can't see these modeling "gigs" as potential hazards. I'm wondering if the reason I don't get messages about sketchy gigs is because I put down in my profile that I will bring an escort and won't work with anyone who tries to deny me that. If that's the case, even just placing a line akin to that will probably deter these creeps from contacting you.

Be safe, ladies!

I'm not a photographer.....but you would think that a legitimate photographer would want a model to bring an escort. Hell....if I was a photographer....and especially if I was doing nudes...I'd want a female associate of my choosing present as well.

Some legitimate photographers have had bad experiences with escorts - everything from the escort making the model less comfortable to being robbed. So I can see why some photographers are leery. But I really think that in that case, rather than demanding that the model risk her life or safety for the sake of the photographer's comfort, photog and model should both bring escorts as you suggest, AND meet before hand in a public place to get a feel for each other. Might slow down the pace of shooting but safety comes first.

also, people online should try to keep gatherings somewhat private, a big party can let down it's guard with strangers.

SIllyness: Just a rant, venting of issues, what is your feedback?

it's important to elaborate and clarify. allow me to do so.

About the time I first joined SG, I was also on an electronica/ House Party forum. During one event, that wasn't well publicized but was on the forums, a woman, who's forum profile had her photo portrait was there also.

She was at this house party, and a few days later, she posted several photographs of her head. Bruised, eyes black, cuts on her head.

She had been violently raped and beaten.

Do not let this happen to the people you care about, PROTECT, the people you care about.

also, fuck yall if you think I'm some kind of violent flip-out asshat. grow a pair and message me personally... also. fuck this shit, assholes thrive in SG.

I see models come into SG, they don't appear to have a good social network.

it's sad there's not a better structure of social support.

I imagine Local Groups do a good job of protecting their own, and avoiding admitting sketchy people.

-
also - I try not to get personal, but people make it personal, so I have to clarify and defend myself, and yet, none of the people who target me own up.

Sorry Thistle for my letting this follow me here.

surreal

This thread is about missing girls and safe modeling, also it's not in a silliness board, I would appreciate it if we could keep the topic without going all weird and tin-foil hatty

Local groups are more likely to protect their own, but not necessarily always in a good way. They may also be more likely to be more trusting and overlook signs that one of their own is a serious creep.

thank you Thistle

while, unlike another SG male member who shall remain anonymous, I have not applied to be a SG Hopeful. So I am completely ignorant of the SG model world, aside from my experience as a normal SG member.

I have not heard of or witnessed here in SuicideGirls.com, any Hopeful or SG model who has been targeted. SG has many very talented photographers whose work I admire. Evidently, from the success of this website, there is a very professional system in place which protects all members within Suicidegirls.com.

hopefully, no Hopeful turns to just anyone with an expensive camera, many SG models have done quite well doing their own photography.

Just as an update to the case where the girl went missing after going to a modeling job, she has been spotted in Denver with an unknown man. So, she's probably, and hopefully, still alive. This girl was also involved in drugs and prostitution in the past, so it is a possibility that she's fallen back into it.

This article doesn't give much information, but apparently, no one knows if the leads have been investigated seriously.

Probably not a coincidence. There are a ton of shady "photographers" on Model Mayhem. No model should ever meet a photographer without an escort.

Just want to point out that while, yes, no model should ever go without an escort, there's also the fact that no photogrpaher should ever rape or kill a model. Let's place the blame where it belongs.

I am normally pretty good about not jumping to "rape prevention tips" so I appreciate this perspective realignment.
